Should we be slowly buying into this? Are these steps to clean up this situation for a potential signing? When things like this come up, is this priming up a situation that leaves Boston as a remote possibility when or if he opts out?

No, I don't think you should read too much into this.  Healing injuries, as well as time, help to heal emotions.  I think if Love comes to Boston, Olynyk will be moved.  Not because they won't get along, but because Olynyk and Love wouldn't be a very good on-court combination.  Their offensive and defensive games are too similar, although Love is better at most everything.

I disagree that they wouldn't be a good combo.  Love wants to play down low and KO doesn't.  Seems like a good fit to me.  Love wants to shoot, KO wants to set picks and pass.  Again, seems like a good fit to me.  Kelly just wants to keep his guy from getting the rebound, Love wants to go get the ball.  Again, seems like an OK fit.

Oly would be a solid back-up for Love.  I don't know if they can play together.  I still would like to see what Olynyk could do with consistent starting minutes at his natural PF position.  He started 13 games this year (at center) and put up 11.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1 steal on 52%/42%/77% shooting in just 25.8mpg.  Not bad at all.  Oly can shoot.  His per-36 stats are solid.

I still really like both Sully and Oly.  I'm skeptical that either can make a leap, but I like them both.  It's a shame they play the same position.  It's a shame that my #1 free agent target this summer (Love) plays that same position as well.   Oh well.   I'm 100% on-board with acquiring Love.  I think we could end up seeing more from Oly/Sully down the line... but neither will ever be as good as Kevin Love is right now. Extremely unlikely.    Gotta do what you gotta do.

These are exactly my thoughts. TP for articulating them.

Found this from Dave McMenamin-

Kevin Love on next season: "I truly expect to be suiting up for Game 1." For the Cavs? Love: "Yes, sir."

Welp, that shoots down everything we thought about Love to Boston (or LA, Atlanta) lol

no it doesn't. What else was he supposed to say 3 days before the finals?

I know Kevin Love is really good.  The numbers he put up in Minnesota were ridiculous.

I don't know that I trust him (or maybe I just don't like him that much) to be the saviour of the Celtics.

I'm all for getting him, though, as long as it doesn't mean getting rid of Kelly Olynyk.

+1.... Just posted this in other Love thread:

Quote

I think that the word "expect" is controlling here.

It's not "shall", it's not "I will be".

You might as well insert "I think I might be" there. He can't say anything else timing wise.

He's gone.

You bring up quite a good point on KO I rarely seem to notice when he is playing. Often at times he is playing the 5 and therefor I judge him as a 5. Issues arise such as he cant defend well, cant box out, cant rebound. All of those points are well warranted when he is playing center, however if he does play at his natural position as a 4 then all of those problems seem more muted. At that point his strengths at the 4 outweigh his deficiencies at the 5.

Yes, please, give KO 25mn per game at the 4 for 40 games next season and let's talk about his ceiling.
Until this day, no point to say if he is at his peak or not.

Love has little interest in playing down low.

He attempted 21% of his FG within 3 feet this season with the Cavs, and only 25% the season before with the Timberwolves.

He's not that guy anymore - since the last injury 3 seasons back he's pretty much become a jump shooter and a pure stretch 4.

As with others, I am genuinely concerned about the combination of either Love/Sully, Love/Olynk or even Love/Zeller.  I don't think either of those combinations works very well.

If we did get love, we'd be very quickly on the look out for a more compatible center.

Love + rim protector (perhaps one in draft i.e. Turner, WCS) + Kelly off of the bench = an awesome front court.
