Sounds like Phil is infatuated with Lyles for his potential fit in the triangle. Many drafts have him at or below 16, so could we possibly trade up with them? Would you do IT, 16, and the Brk 2016 pick for Calderon and 4? This would give them the best AVAILABLE starting point guard this summer, Lyles, and a pick next year. It'd be rough letting IT and that Brooklyn pick go due to its potential, because losing IT hurts our KLove chances. However, I would do it for the chance of nabbing a Russell, Mudiay, Porzingis, or Winslow.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I would not do that trade if we had to take back Calderon, on top of giving them IT, 16, and an unprotected pick that will likely be in the lottery.  If we take back Calderon, we keep the Brookyln pick.  Otherwise they can keep Calderon.

Would Ainge really ask for IT's opinion on free agents if he was going to deal him?   Seems odd to me.  I would ask you if #4 will be a better player than IT?   I think not for a few years and maybe never.

I'd do Bradley, #16 and our first second round pick.

IT doesn't really fit what the Knicks want to do, but mini Kobe might be more in line with Phil. and he is signed to a really good contract for several years.  I'm not sure the Knicks what to wait on Mudiay to develop over three more years.

Then I'd seriously shop #4 to either move back to 6-8 or see if we could net an established guy for it like Cousins and maybe one of the Brooklynn picks and Sully.  Maybe throw that deal at NO and see if they are so worried Davis is leaving they might be willing to move him.

I don't think I'd do the deal for #4 unless I really was sure about Mudiay OR I knew what Sac or NO were willing to do for Cousins or Davis.  Of course there could be other guys in the mix to trade for #4 but I hadn't put that much thought into it.

Yes, Ainge would ask IT for his opinion and then trade him if the right offer came along, without batting an eye.  I don't think it likely the right offer will actually come along, but no one is ever untradeable to Ainge.

Yes. I love IT, but he is only a super sixth man. We got him for a late first rounder and an expiring contract. The #4 pick should be a solid starter at worst, and an all star at best. If you draft a player that is worse than IT at #4, then you are absolutely blowing that pick. I think our #16 pick will be as good a player as IT.
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

It would be so disgusting if Ainge got some good ideas from IT, then traded him.

lol

I don't think Ainge will get any ideas from IT.  Mostly he's trying to figure out whom IT has a good enough relationship with to help recruit, and to make IT feel like a valued member of the organization (which he is), in part to defray his lack of complete acceptance of the 6th man role.

With Melo's limited shelf-life, the Knicks want to win now, meaning players who can help them win right now.

While future draft picks would mean something to them, even as a trade commodity to get players who can help win now, it is clear that they want players to help Melo to compete in his window. As soon as the lottery was done, there was smoke about the Knicks 4th pick being on the market.

Not sure if we have what it takes to get #4 or even want it (meaning maybe we can get Danny?s guy at 8,9 or 10 instead) or be involved in a 3 way where some of some of our young assets go to a 3rd team and get the 8,9 or 10 and they get the 4 or some variation thereof.

This sounds like BS based on the commonly held belief that Jackson is smarter than everyone else and sees something special in a non-lottery player that no one else sees. Knicks will pick the best player with 4th pick and try to play it into a trade for a proven player.

There is another thread that has Sully, Bradley and 3 first for the #6 so I am not sure what NYK would be looking for.  I would like the idea of say Bradley, Thomas, #16, and BKN 2016 first for #4 and Calderon.

You don't know what you are giving away with the BKN 2016 first but that is the reason why it would have value to the Knicks.  They need picks to build depth so I would think they would like a 1 for 2 swap, especially if they still get the player they want.  Not sure the NYC would do this but if they would, I would not worry about taking back Calderon for 2 years.  This is still a better deal than Sully, Bradley and 3 first for the #6 (which I would not do).

Maybe Ainge could use some advice from someone with more of a bottom-up approach.

Geddit? Height joke.

No discriminating here. As someone who barely scratches 5'10 on a good day, I am in no position to laugh AT Isaiah Thomas, who could probably break every bone in my body if he decides to (dude is fierce). I'm laughing WITH.

 ;)

I can't believe how much some people overvalue picks.  I don't think a single guy mentioned in the top 10 guys in this draft will be a trans-formative player in the NBA.  There will probably only be 5 6-10 year starters.

People are talking about a kid who hasn't even played college ball at #4, and maybe he will be great, but look at how awesome Darko was supposed to be.  These players hardly ever pan out.

To me trading two established starting caliber players and three first round draft picks for the #4 pick this year seems insane.
