Congrats to Marcus.

He and KO (last year) are the first two Celtics to make All-Rookie honors since Rondo, who also was a 2nd teamer.

The last All-Rookie first teamer was Pierce.

I'm pretty sure most of the voters just look at scoring.

This pretty much proves that.

Celtics were a net 2 pts better on D and 4 points better on O with Smart on the floor. Clarkson was net neg in both despite higher stats.

People are more impressed with offense than defense.  It's annoying because Marcus Smart's defense is more impressive than Clarkson's offense and Smart's offense is a lot more impressive than Clarkson's defense.

Points per game is all anybody cares about when voting for rookies.

agreed.

I consider Noel a second-year player regardless of sitting out last year.  Other than Wiggins, no one of the first team strikes as a player clearly superior to Smart.

Smart got robbed. Clarkson was one of the top options on his team while Smart was almost always the fifth option, and the only statistical separation between the two is four points per game. That's not even mentioning the vast difference between their respective defensive capabilities.

Oh, and Smart was also a key contributor for a playoff team that won nearly TWICE as many games as Clarkson's team.

Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

behind Jordan Clarkson and Elfrid Payton?... I guess that settles the debate about how Smart is viewed nationally in comparison to Jordan Clarkson.

FWIW, Clarkson was pretty good during the second half.  16.7 points, 5.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1 steal, 48%/31%/84% in 32.6mpg

Smart:  9.1 points, 2.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 36%/31%/62% in 30.2mpg

Using traditional stats, it's kinda a no-contest.

It's a snub, especially with a weak overall class, but not a terribly surprising one. No one watched Celtics games outside of New England and defense is habitually underrated. Hopefully it's just more fuel for the fire, both for Smart's career and whenever we play the Lakers.

Agree with LarBrd on this one (gulp!). Jk :)

Clarkson was solid in the 2nd half of season. Agree with others' comparison of O and D, but such is life. Seems like the type of guy that may be motivated by a perceived snub, anyway :)

Was the the debate settled when Smart finished higher than Clarkson for Rookie of the year voting? Why is one held higher than the other? We are highlighting this one because it fits the agenda? Clarson actually finished 7th in rookie of the year, receiving only 2 points. Smart received 6. Nurkic was in between them.

I also think a lot of it has to do with exposure as well. As crappy of team the Lakers is, they still get nationally televised and some people's chance to really watch Smart was during the playoffs (and it wasn't a ringing endorsement) or some highlight clips of a game. I think we all know offense is more highly regarded than defense when it comes to these types of things.

Guys don't worry.

Gary Payton was on the All-Rookie Second Team as well in 1991. Coincidence?

Both 6'4" physical guards who excell on D and both are very competitive.
