Well, we almost lost Round 1 to Atlanta in 2008 BECAUSE of Doc changing his rotation...Luckily, Ainge or somebody had him change back---and we won....But 2008's Championship was almost blown by him and him alone.

This x 100

wdleehi - it's never been more appropriate than now to appreciate the banner in your sig, lol ;D. Thank you, and TP.

TP to both of you. Man, that sig goes back a long way. I remember being in agreement well before we were actually good in 2007.

GM Doc sucks for the Clippers

I agree with that.  He's a good coach for a veteran team.  He's a terrible GM.

In other words to win a championship he needs a team with three first ballot all of famers that include arguably the best defensive power forward in the history of the game, the best pure shooter in the history of the game, and one of the best clutch players in the history of the game teamed with two all time defensive specialist (Allen and Posey) a two time champion back up point guard (Cassell) and playoff Rondo. With all that he still needed the opponents big man to get injured and some timely foul trouble to force him to use his bench. Yeah I agree with you.

The guy got himself a big fat raise and is now a Head Coach and GM.
Quitting has paid off for him.

Why are people hating on Doc again? You guys have it all wrong. You want to CELEBRATE Doc Rivers.

Regardless of your opinion of his coaching or "quitting" on this team, the Celtics have another 1st round pick (for letting the Clippers have him), a 2nd round pick (his son) and they have a guy who is acclaimed as one of the best coaches in this league (CBS) on a cheaper, long term deal.

Hate Doc? Heck no! I'm THANKING Doc.

And frankly, I reserve all my hate for Cleveland and the other LA team so I can't get too worked up if the Clips did or didn't win a title this year.

I thought it was made for more comedic purposes. Zinger type
. Good jokes or jabs I feel can get rewarded. Not all posters take things seriously.

Nor should we, imo, hence my thread about Sherrod's mock.  It's important to have fun and laugh :). Life isn't enjoyable when you take everything so seriously.

He had little to no faith in his bench except crawford. Plays  after plays for the starters. They ran out of gas.

Rockets just too deep in the end.  Smith has been a very good pickup

Well, for what it's worth, I'm glad he snatched victory from the jaws of defeat right here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpxtiQZiK2c

I'm more inclined to believe that this rests on his players than on him, but he's too much of a leader to admit that.

I'm shocked that they lost three like this.....I'm certain that Doc Rivers gave some of the same speeches to the clips that he gave to BOS in the vid above....so what is so different about THAT team than THIS one?

Doc Rivers had to put ENTIRE team on HIS back for that miraculous comeback in 2008.....look at the body language of BOS in the 1st half vice the 2nd.

That is Doc Rivers giving that team confidence.

So, why didn't the clips respond this time?

I know we had PJ Brown, Eddie House and Posey make big plays in that comeback game for us...I'm guessing that the Clips bench is thin, as mentioned in the thread.

I feel bad for Doc.

On the flip side though - GREAT JOB to Coach McHale and HOU. In his own way, he made Josh Smith welcomed and found a home for him in HOU...kept HOU on track while Dwight recuperated...created environment for JH to get runner-up MVP...

GSW had better come out rdy to fight.

Yeah, our offense was much better before we got KG and Ray, iirc.  I know that that sounds stupid, but it's true.  Cleveland was a great defensive team who got away with murder because of Lebron, yes, but our offense was so bad that Ray didn't even score in one game, and only had 2 points, on free throws (if memory serves me correctly), in game 7.  I know that Ray was either feast or famine for most of his time here in the playoffs, but for crying out loud, he was being 'guarded' by Wally freakin' Szczerbiak! *facepalm* That right there should tell you that something was very very wrong with our 'offense' ::), which was nothing but a nauseating diet of pick and rolls which largely failed to accomplish anything.  With the talent we had on that team, our best method of scoring should never have come from 'getting stops and pushing it' ::), but Doc never changed his beyond stupid offensive system, nor did he adapt it to help get the best out of his guys.  Look no further than Jason Terry.  Doc refused to let him play his game, which is largely scoring with the ball in his hands coming off of a pick and roll, so that should have been perfect for Doc (sigh), using him in exactly the same manner as he had used Ray, because apparently they're the same player (sarcasm) ::), while McHale has really just allowed Terry to be who he always has been, and it's not surprising to see him doing much better because of it.  Kevin seems to have his guys playing in a way that gets the most out of them and plays to their strengths, which is mainly the 3-point shot, as opposed to just trying to mold some established dude into a better fit for his 'system' ::), and it's worked.  How about that (sarcasm) ::)?
