Almost nobody -- not the Lottery teams, not the teams still in the hunt -- is better set up for the next 3-5 years than the Celtics. Boston has two firsts and two seconds in this year's Draft, will likely have four first-round picks in 2016 -- its own, Brooklyn's, Cleveland's (the Cavs' pick is top 10 protected next year) and Dallas' (top seven protected) -- and can flop first-rounders with Brooklyn in 2017. Those picks will give Celtics boss Danny Ainge incredible flexibility to move in and out, up and down in each of the next two Drafts to get wherever he wants -- and to take whomever he wants. Make no mistake -- coach Brad Stevens worked wonders with this group this year, but there isn't anything close to a dominant, franchise-turning talent on the roster.

Is that Kevin Love? The rumor mill has churned for a year with nuggets about Love's supposed interest in Boston after his up and down season with the Cavs. But Love seemed to have finally found his equilibrium in Cleveland at the end of the season before suffering that separated shoulder -- against the Celtics -- in the first round. Yahoo! Sports reported last week that that injury at the hands of Kelly Olynyk may have cooled Love's interest in playing for the Celtics next season. My experience has consistently been that anger subsides as dollars increase, and I'm told authoritatively that Love holds no long-lasting ill will toward either the Celtics or Olynyk. Boston can offer Love a max deal a second after midnight on July 1, an opportunity to again be the focal point of his team, lead an emerging surrounding cast and play for a terrific young coach.

The Celtics' look could change dramatically between June 26 and July 2. In fact, it would be shocking if it didn't.

Forgot the 2018 BKN 1st too.

Please specify David Alrdidge. I had a minor heart attack of happiness, then I remembered about david aldridge.

Yeah, I just posted in the LaMarcus Aldridge / Wes Matthews thread. I knew it had to be David Aldridge coming in, but a part of me was still hopeful.

No matter, it is still good to be thought of in high regard...and that 2016 CLE pick was totally worth IT4.

But I think we do have Minny's pick -- protected?

I have to admit I got too excited when I read the title, for some reason I was thinking Lamarcus Aldridge was saying that....

DA has a good basketball mind, without much fluff.

He's just calling it as he sees it.

DA has made some tough, but wise choices to set us up for the future.

Auerbachian? We'll see. He'll need to match Red's wheeling and dealing from 79-mid 80's but he's well on his way. :)

If we can get a title run the next couple of years AND have a number 2 pick (1986) then I'm through ;D

The Minny 2016 pick is top 12 protected.  If we don't get it, we get their 2016 and 2017 2nd round picks instead.

3-5 years?  In 3-5 years we'll finally be cashing in on all our picks.  I think he meant the next 3-10 years.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I don't trust Ainge. A lot of drafting woes, he's turning it around now.

The Spurs have Kawhi and Popovich.

Already that's far better.

Edit - I thought this was about places for LaMarcus Aldridge to sign.

But the point stands.

You must not be old enough to recall the summer of 2007?

What does that have to do with Ainge's drafting?

I think it's a bit harsh to use the term "woes," but I don't think Ainge is above criticism for his drafting strategies.  He has a strong tendency to take established college guys with tweener skill sets.  His picks usually turn into NBA players, which is a significant accomplishment.

But there's room for criticism too.  He doesn't take enough risks, and perhaps too often passes guys with more defined roles, greater physical ability, and much higher upside.
