No way.......he , he totally fails on a team without a bunch of super stars to MAKE his role seem important ......he gets no attention ....and thus succeeds .

Same as Rivers ......the worse players are ignored ,,left wide open, unboxed out , in order to put more pressure on the stars.

Meh....... TT is not good on a mediocre team ......he helps a great team......like Splitter ......but disappears when surrounded by average players or worse.

He's got his opportunity right now to make it.  I'd be surprised if he gets much less than $13 mil, and the max should be somewhere around $15.8 mil.  It's not far fetched at all, in my opinion.

He's a great offensive rebounder, but the rest of his game is average or below.

He certainly can't be a starter for the Cavs, or most other teams. The lack of spacing killed the ability for Kyrie and Lebron to drive.

The fact that he turned down $13M/yr over four years this past off-season pretty much guarantees that he will get awfully close to the max. As Saltlover mentioned, his 'max' should be around $15.8M, that is only a couple million more than he already turned down.

It's ridiculous, but the reality of today's NBA.

Doesn't he share an agent with LeBron though? I remember reading a while back that Thompson would likely be wildly overpaid as a favor to LeBron's agent in exchange for him steering LeBron to Cleveland.  It's hard to argue that Thompson is worth a max deal on his own, but he could get the max or something close just because of the weird circumstances.

If the Cavs want to keep their current roster, either the players will have to make some compromises a la SAS for the benefit of playing in a strong contender, or they will have to let some go.
I think Thompson will probably stay in the Cavs with a good contract but not the max.

It would be a very bad idea to try to replace Love with Thompson.  We saw last night how hard it is for the Cavs to penetrate when the Bulls pack the paint.

Still that is cheaper than resigning him, and who knows what they will do.   That is why I think they could resign him and trade him for someone who LeBron likes better.

I don't see Thompson getting the huge contract JVG does, but if he does, I think it's because Dan Gilbert doesn't mind overspending (see, e.g., Anderson Varejao).  I think the Cavs would be better off letting Thompson walk, though, and try to use Brendan Haywood's contract to bring back more of an impact player.

I think you are underselling Thompson a bit.  He is a darn good rebounder and has an ok offensive game. 

I think they will move Haywood and keep Thompson.  The Cavs want to build a dynasty and Gilbert will spend the money.  Keeping Thompson makes a lot of sense, as does getting something for Haywood.

Thing is, that's pretty much the "max" for TT.

My hope is, Cleveland decides they can't pay both Love and TT so they elect to pay TT because he does his role better and doesn't seek touches or anything and they agree to do a S&T for Love or he just walks...to Boston.

(He doesn't really have to walk to Boston. I'd pick him up.)

Lots of guys this summer. Feels like anyone who would've gotten $10+ million per year under the old cap is worth the max with the way the cap is set to rise over next couple of years.
