Aminu is not much of a upgrade for the Celts.

Aminu offers nothing that isn't covered by Crowder or Jerebko. I'll be disappointed if Ainge signs him.

Also, Aminu already declined that player option.

I don't know about that, man. He's really long, a better athlete than both, and has better handles.

I'd still rather have Crowder since he'll likely command less money and offer similar skills.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I think Ainge is sending out these signals to pressure Crowder's and Jerebko's agents into getting team friendly deals done with the celtics. He's just putting some pressure on them and letting them know he has other options.

Yeah, what a great strategy (sarcasm) ::).  It sure worked out extremely well with Posey and Maggette, didn't it (sarcasm)? *facepalm*

Aminu seems like the sort of player Ainge would kick the tires on - young underachieving lottery pick with some upside and cheapish to sign.  An Evan Turner-like reclamation project like somebody said.

That said I'm not real enthused about getting him here.  Maybe if Crowder is offered more money than we're willing to pay.

Or more likely he's just falling back to the old big-3 days of trying to sign the lowest level of scrubs that are out there whom people have still actually heard of.

You know, the Keyon Dooling / Mickeal Pietrus / Jason Collins type of signings that we all thought were firmly put to rest now that the Celtics have cap space.

Don't get me wrong I liked all of those guys for their energy, veteran leadership and effort levels alone...but I mainly appreciated those guys because we all knew that was all we could afford, and for what they were they did a good job.

I have to say though, as amazed as I am with Danny's ability to continue picking up something  for nothing, it's getting to the point where if we're going to take the next step we kinda need one or two players who are more then 'just somebody'.  I'd like to see us acquire at least one guy who is a 'starting player on a playoff team' caliber talent.

You don't need any inside info to think that Aminu is a possible Plan B if someone else overpays Crowder.  It could be his agent floating a rumor to gauge the market.

I agree, I will add I really like him as a plan B. His length at the 3/4 can really help a team defensively as will his rebounding ability.

Man ....I love this dudes game ....has he always been this intense ?   Wow......he was skipping up the court , fists clinched , screaming , very emotional.  Works at both ends of court .

He has the ....CAN DO .....attitude.

A mini KG . ...in effort ..........if he is going to play like he did effort wise for Mavs .....

If KLeonard, Bulter , Green are off the table ......I think I d go after  Aminu.   .....like him better than Harris .

Monroe maybe fools gold once he gets a Max contract.  His intensity is suspect IMO.

Problem with the logic of Aminu over Harris is the fact that Harris will be a 1-3 offensive option. Aminu even with more development is never going to be the focal point of an offense.

I like Crowder, but Aminu attacks the rim pretty much often, so I wouldn't say they are totaly the same type of players.

Yep, exactly.  We don't need more role players (although I'd rate his defense above Jerebko's).

Yeah this pretty much says all we need to say on this one.

Above average of defense. Nothing on offense. If we lose Crowder and Jerebko then he is worth a look at to be the SF off the bench. Other than that Crowder and Jerebko are both better all around role players.

Al Farouq Aminu comes from a long line of Nigerian Kings. His name translates to "The Chief has Arrived".

Always been a fan, he was picked over Paul George which IIRC this was one of the big cases of Chad Ford revisionist mock draft history.

Personally think Aminu still got more upside than Crowder. Could be a Lamar Odom type without the baggage.

I think he offers more upside because he's a lot younger than Jerebko and is more athletic/longer than Crowder.

I'm not interested in adding him right now, but if we make a deal where we trade several players and picks for a star I think he would be a great pickup to fill out the rotation.

Obviously I'd rather a big time free agent.
