Trade idea if PP wants to come back

PP can make 8 figures next year in Was, he isn't going to want to come here for the vet min.

But, if he wants to come back, why not trade for him? I don't know how we will use cap space, and the timing could be tricky, but we could trade Turner for PP. They could have Pressey if they wanted to. Maybe a second rounder. If PP asks Was and says he just wants to go home, do they say no? It would be a win-win-win: We get PP, Was gets a small asset and repays PP, and PP gets paid.

This fits with what I think is out plan: keep getting better while maintaining assets and flexibility to make big moves to get big stars when the opportunity arises.  This could also be done with a max free agent signing (TPE) or major trade or both.

Bass and Bradley apart the only player with playoff experience (actually the player with most playoff experience) was Wallace and he played (correct me if Im wrong) 0 mins against Cavs. The reason is IMHO CBS was testing the guts of his young players.

G.Wallace played about 4mins guarding lebron. and PP is and would not earn 8 figures next season cause he would only be payed $5m if take his player option. so if DA wants PP, why not just convince PP to sign for us. I mean, $5m would not hurt our cap room right?

In terms of getting the team better, I def see your point.
In terms of creating a better team for the future, I think your case is harder to make. With 4 draft picks + Young they'll have lots of young players to experiment with esp the first few months.
Pierce deserves better than mentoring 2o yo... hell he might even reach the East Finals this year!

Not to mention that PP said next year would be his last. I don't see why we would bring him back unless we are a contender. IF DA lands a top tier FA or pulls off a trade for someone like Cousins. I think certainly Paul would come back.

One other problem, the 2nd half of this year BS finally put a stamp on this team. It was finally his. Before he had Rondo and JG the 'old' vet that came through the big 3 era. Would it be difficult to bring back someone like PP while BS is trying to establish his own culture?

Pierce has fit in very well with Washington this year. I think he has embraced being the mentor and guy they look up to. He's a good complimentary piece to guys like Wall, Beal.

Much like KG returning to Minnesota, it would be a great story. But Garnett was away from MIN for almost a decade, Pierce has only been gone two years.

We'd have to land like a Jordan/Love front court pairing for him to even consider it. If we could land one of those two and convince the other to sign since the first star signed, then this might make sense.

That's a good mix of defense and offense, and Pierce would be a nice one-year stopgap at the 3 until some more cap space opened up in 2016. We'd have to find a taker for Wallace somewhere, and we'd probably have to find some sort of trade with Washington to make it work, unless there's some kind of exception we'd be able to use around 4 or 5 million that I'm missing.

Even if he doesn't come back for his final year , I think that the Celtics should pay Pierce to spend the summer, his last summer , working with Smart, Young (in particular), and the rookies from the upcoming draft.  Hopefully, he can show them the ropes, but more importantly, give us an honest assessment of these guys, in terms of who he thinks will be a good/great player, and which one(s) look like busts, etc.  I'd just be interested to get his take.
