Smart is a SG who can make some plays off the dribble, but can't run an offense  . Bradley is way undersized and a chucker, he should be moved to the bench next season . Thomas is a good 6th man, but is to small to be a starter

As for our big men , we have no reliable starting PF or C who can do work down low . We need an upgrade at both big man positions . Zeller and KO are to weak and soft , Sullinger to fat and injury prone .

But for this thread I am focusing on possible upgrades at the PG position the next few years .

FA point guards 2015
Goran Dragic      Player Option =  he already said he is opting out
Brandon Knight (restricted)    = Pho wont let him walk after trading for him
Reggie Jackson (restricted     = not a huge fan, but maybe
Rondo                UFA  = not happening

FA point guard 2016
Mike Conley UFA
Lillard           ( restricted)

2015 NBA Draft

Mudiay  = top 5 pick , will be hard to trade up that far

* Dont see any other highly regarded PG's in this draft

PG trade possibilities

Lawson = He will be on the market again this off-season
Lowry   = If Tornto gets beat in the 1st rd again, they may want to move on for the right price
George Hill = could be had for a reasonable price

So I am thinking next few years our best chance at a legit PG would be

1) Dragic  - if we give him the max (2015)
2) Conley  = 15 mil a year range (2016)
3) Jackson = 12 mil a year range

I think Dragic rounds this backcourt out perfectly as a PG with size and can handle and shoot the ball. Isiah might not be to fond of seeing him again , but oh well . Either him or Conley ( if Gasol leaves Mem) would be my main tagets at the PG position if I am Danny .

PG: Dragic   / Thomas
SG: Smart   / Bradley
SF: Crowder / Turner
PF: Sully       / KO
 C:  Zeller     / ?

I will make a big man thread later, but wanted to focus on the PG position in this thread

Don't think the Raps would give up on Lowry just yet, but man that would be an interesting backcourt of Smart and Lowry.

would be interesting , but he is close to 30 now  and has had some back issues this year .

We could also use a new SF, since Crowder is probably leaving.  Plus, Sully is about to get a new deal next year and it will probably be for more than he is worth, so we should also look into getting a new PF.  Plus he gets injured a lot.

So I would say we look pretty good if we can just fill these holes:

PG: ?
SG: Smart
SF: ?
PF: ?
C: ?

6th Man: Isaiah

Bench: Zeller, Evan Turner, Bradley, Olynyk, James Young, Clippers Pick, Our Pick

Since our coach is Brad Stevens, my guess is we're looking for a point forward.

"Real" point guards are a dying breed in the NBA, anyway, and for good reason.

EDIT: sorry, confused your post with another one in the game thread. You just wanted an upgrade, not a "real" point guard.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Well, Ty Lawson does fit conveniently into the Rondo TPE.

Would need to move either Bradley or IT afterwards. Maybe both?

been saying we need a PG and Center all year.  need a scoring wing too that can create their own shot.  tonight's game couldn't have shown a brighter light on that necessity.

Yeah. We just need two or three core stars and we'll be in business.  No sweat guys!

If we had Hassan Whiteside, Jabari Brown, and Roscoe Smith, we would have swept the Cavs in 3 games ;), ahaha (sarcasm). ;D

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Smart right now is a guard who can't yet run an offense. I expect him to improve this aspect of his game this offseason and do so even more next offseason.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

And it can't happen with Turner acting as the pg.  Turner should be traded in the offseason imo

You guys should give Smart some credit to his play making ability... He was doing well offensively tonight, and somehow got benched... 17 mins? IT under 30? Come on, we could've have had that game if we turned in the players that were doing well.

I expect Smart to improve. He is a hard working player, with a high motor, and willingness/work ethic to become better.

Smart doesn't average a lot of assists, but he makes the right pass or plays half the time.

Once Smart learns how to adjust to the speed of the NBA, I can foresee his play making, and aggressiveness increasing.

I think that George Hill is actually an interesting option if we decided to move on from Bradley. Solid ball handler and defender, plus comes with playoff experience. Could be difficult to pry him from Indiana, seeing as he grew up there, but a starting backcourt of Hill and Smart with Thomas off the bench would be great

Would be very surprised if Danny wasn't vigorously trying to move up for a crack at Cauley-Stein or Myles Turner....
