any real celtic i follow when they leave town and hope they do well
perk, pp, kg, ray, leon powe, paul westphal, rick robey any of them

i want rondo to succeed for all he gave us
is he being thick headed and not helping his team-yes
is rick carlisle being thick headed and not helping his team-yes

rondo is a bad fit in dallas, his strengths and weaknesses would be better on another team/system
i like carlisle and hope he does well….yep former celtic but rick does tend to have the my way period system of coaching like a scott skiles, rick is a good coach but even his good friend larry bird sent him packing

rajon has through injuries and his play hurt his next contract period
will he make a team like indy or sacramento better yes, roy hibbert would become an offensive juggernaut just from open looks from rondo, the kings could sign him to get more out of cousins and keep him happy (unless cousins wants to come to boston  8)  )

there are enough teams that will want rondo but attitude even if it isn't truly an issue will be on everyones mind, also knee, face and back injuries recently

Do you expect Rajon Rondo to ever wear a Mavericks uniform again? "No, I don't," Rick Carlisle said.

Because of the injury, right???  Sounds like it must be pretty bad.

Gotta be, must've hurt his back trying to carry to corpses of Dirk and Co. to a title.

I'm glad Danny unloaded him before he started acting up on the Celtics.

He already was...anyone who watched them blow 4th quarter leads with him refusing to drive wide open lanes to the basket knew this.

no it's not bc of the injury.  Rondo could be back after the 1st round.  He could be back after the 2nd round.

Carlisle basically stating Rondo is not playing for the rest of the playoffs in addition won't be signed after this season

BUT - then again - this is ESPN we are following here, LOL.....so what is exactly the truth?
No, we're really following the Dallas PR staff and mavs.com's beat reporter:

https://twitter.com/EarlKSneed/status/590976998769430529

Or, alternatively, we're talking tin foil hats. It's pretty cut and dry, really.

Yeah, the same PR staff that gives Dirk Nowitski a free pass as he can't hit the broadside of a barn with a Tactical Nuke.

Dirk is an NBA legend and Mavs Lifer. One bad game will not bring him down to Rondo's level, especially considering (though it shouldn't even be relevant) Dirk's strong performance in game 1.

Rondo has been to the All-Star game a few times. He's not a legend. He's has not just one bad game but a really unimpressive 2-3 year stretch starting with the injury, making a pitstop for a lackluster 6 months of stat-padded basketball in Boston and ending with an absolutely pathetic performance in game 2.

I appreciate what Rondo did for the Celts from 2008-12, but I really don't understand how Boston's blue collar fanbase likes him anymore. He's a spoiled brat who thinks he's smarter than everyone else and believes the team needs to be built around him.

There are plenty of guys in the NBA just as intelligent as Rondo who don't let their intellect constantly disturb their team. That's not smarts, that's just being a jerk. I haven't watched the Mavs much but when I have I've observed Rondo's notably apathetic efforts to adjust to their system, particularly with respect to playing off the ball. I don't see Rondo diving to the rim when the defense takes their eyes off him to check Ellis or Parsons or Dirk. I don't see him crashing the offensive glass like he used to. I don't see any of the effort he put into being a dangerous off ball weapon despite his poor shot. All I see is a stubborn point guard who costs his team possessions against a formidable opponent on the road in protest of his coach calling the plays (last night's 8 sec violation). That's not the Rondo any of us used to know, so I can't understand why his supporters still love him as they do.

This....so much.

I bet it gave Rondo a headache knowing that the PF he was trying to work with in DAL wasn't THIS guy:

Garnett, even playing on one leg and the other leg in a cast - is a better defender than Dirk, even now.

and Dirk gets a free pass.

“He is seeking additional medical opinions,” Carlisle said. “For now, he will not be around the team. I understand the announcement that’s been made is going to have different interpretations. I’m giving you our interpretation of it. This is fact. From here, we’re moving forward. We’ve got a series to win. We got to win Game 3 with the guys we have.”

“I like Rondo,” Carlisle said. “My relationship with him was professional. We learned a lot going through this, trying to make this thing work. It being an injury is something we didn’t want.”

What a good but bad liar

Deng!  Rondo's getting the Tinsley treatment, lol. ;D

Yeah I have many fond memories of Rondo, never hated on the guy when he was here, and I really do wish him well as long as he's not on the Lakers.  And I do think he's got more left in the tank than it's looked since the trade.  But what he's pulled in Dallas is indefensible.  Complete prima donna crap, and caring more about petty power struggles with his coach instead of winning games.  And with free agency coming up, it's even stupid from a selfish perspective because he's costing himself millions.

I think - I hope - he's better than this.  But he's not doing a thing to show it lately.

Weird.

Rondo gets traded and we get better.
Dallas gets Rondo and they get worse.

So is he carrying teams or bringing them down?

I wasn't actually serious, Rondo's largely been trash in Dallas, haha.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
A team will give Rondo at least a near max contract next year on the assumption that he will be right to lead their system - they won't make the same mistake Dal made by trying to force him to play in a system in which he isn't comfortable.

Those saying that this is the end of Rondo sound kind-of crazy. Even when he looked off earlier this season, he was still putting up near triple doubles nightly. He is still a very good player and even though he probably won't live up to the max expectations of his next team, he will surely play better than he is now.

Define "Legend".

To me, Tim Duncan is a Legend. He will go down in history as a complete Superstar. Russell, Kareem, Hakeem, Larry, Shaq, Wilt, Michael, Dr J.....these guys played BOTH sides of the ball at an Elite level.

Larry and Magic could be debated defensively - while Larry won 3 2nd team defensive awards, Magic didn't win any.

But Larry and Magic are certainly Legends.

Dirk is not in their category.

Dirk's international flair helps with his appeal, but he is not on the same level as those guys.

So what is Dirk, again?

And define "Blue Collar Fanbase". I've been a diehard C's fan since 1981....does that make me "Blue Collar"? Does my admiration of what Rajon Rondo did for us make me any different than the "Blue" collars?

Does my steadfast refusal to toss Rondo under the bus here make me non-Blue? Or does it make me Green?

You won't find a post anywhere of me saying that Rajon Rondo is perfect. But neither will you find one of me saying that Larry Bird was perfect. Nor Paul Pierce.

In today's day and age, player's mannerisms, habits, expressions - can be read so many ways. Some of it true, some of it purely false.

Whatever Rondo's struggles in DAL, whether professionally or otherwise - won't take away from the fact that he had some incredible seasons in BOS.

Never will.
