The guy is gone. Why so hateful? Let him go. Stop bashing. Just forget him.

Oh wait! Who cares about an idol? We can have an athletic big, oh-my-god-he-can-dunk, as dumb as a doorknob, functional illiterate like WCS, McGee, Sanders or Upshaw. They are beloved around here, not Rajon. That explains a lot about some people.

While we're talking about illiteracy, "functional" is an adjective.  In your sentence, it's modifying "illiterate", which is also an adjective.  That's not proper grammar.  You should have instead written "functionally illiterate", since you need an adverb, in this case "functionally", to modify your adjective, in this case "illiterate."

Anyway, jut a tip: When questioning the literacy of people you've never met (and really have little idea about -- did you know Willie Cauley-Stein likes writing poetry and reading it at open mic nights?) it's a good idea to be dead-on perfect with you grammar.  Because, you know what they say about glass houses and all.

Speaking of glass houses, "illiterate" is being used as a noun above.

That's why we ask members not to chastise each other for their grammar / use of English. It's just an unnecessary and often disrespectful way of putting others down.

Fair point.  That's what I get for reading too quickly.  Although I do think that rule should be extended towards making unfounded insults regarding the educational levels of basketball players, and chastising members for liking said players.

TP for making me more self-aware.

On the other side was a worthless waste of jersey filler. Rajon Rondo was useless. He was despicable. He was absolutely non-existent. With Chandler Parsons and Devon Harris out with injuries, seeing the pathetic excuse of an effort by Rondo in an every body on deck effort, was the biggest slap in the face to Dallas Mavericks fans, Mavericks ownership and those teammates who fought desperately. Missed shots? Sure. Beaten on the boards? Ok. You can give me a number of reasons the Mavericks lost this game, but a glaring void was on the front line with a wretched outing by Rondo. Absolutely mindless personal fouls. An 8-second violation. A complete cop-out in the face of adversity. He played 9 minutes and 55 seconds of insignificant basketball. I’m not even going to round up to 10 because if he wasn’t going to come out prepared to play, then why should anybody else give him the benefit of the doubt. I defended the idea, the paper philosophy that Rondo was going to be a difference maker. I held out hope that at some point he would man up and take his place as the brain piece of this Mavericks roster. But while he sat idle on the bench smirking and staring into nothingness, the head case of Josh Smith, the one nobody wanted was delivering lob passes, threes and monster jams to the Mavericks defenseless defense. Could Rondo stop the big men down low from owning the paint? No, but Tyson Chandler isn’t stretched all over the court trying to cover defensive deficiencies giving up a 30-15 turnaround that destroyed the Mavs 4th quarter. If Rondo is trying to say “okay tough guy, you bench me and I’ll be a nipple on a wart-hog” then he won that battle, and he proved to be more of a child than anybody in the NBA, NCAA, UIL and 1st-grade church league. I never thought I would see a player check out mentally like Lamar Odom again, but at a critical time in the Mavericks attempt to steal one from the Rockets on the road, we saw the most cowardly performance Mavericks fans have ever been privy to. And nobody deserves to play with, coach or root for a spineless athlete giving that little back

Wow.  Tell us how you really feel Dallas guy.

I watched the Celtics game late on DVR and it was near my bedtime so I caught snippets of this one and fast-forwarded the rest.  Was Rondo really as bad as this guy's saying?  A crappy game is one thing but it sounds like he flat-out quit on the team.

if Bryant wants Rondo to join the Lakers so much once he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, why is the Lakers’ star standing up his friend? “I don’t know,” Rondo said. “I called and left a couple of voice mails. But he didn’t respond.”

You left a lot of context out of this, hopefully not knowing the whole story. I wouldn't take anything Rondo says to the media at face value.  Not I trait I like, but it is what it is:

Rondo is a spoiled, petulant jerk.  It's not a locker room story anymore.  It is plain for all to see.

I want to feel bad for where Rondo's career has taken him, but the way he's acting, he deserves it.

When Rondo joins the Lakers, that might be the most hateable backcourt ever.

I dont think Lakers will even want him

Maybe the Kings. Rondo could be out of a job next season

He might need to take an Evan Turner-like one or two year deal to try and rebuild his value. Ball dominant guards who can't shoot really don't seem like a worthwhile investment in today's NBA.

Remember that thread towards the beginning of the season where some people on the board said they would not trade Rondo for Kyrie.  Hilarious!

I just don't understand the point of bringing in a player like Rondo and take away one of his biggest strengths as a player.

Rondo should be calling the plays.  He does an excellent job of it.  It keeps him more involved in the game.  It takes advantage of his strength.

While he may not be playoff Rondo of old, it would help the team instead of creating all the strife.

I think the Dallas fans are in denial that their team has gotten old, this is not just on Rondo.  Dirk is a pale shadow of himself.

Rondo is an easy scapegoat as he is moody and surly.   But the Mavs has some horse, this side of the glue factory,  guys who played a year too long.   It hurts them that Parsons is hurt too.

After he was benched he just sat along the baseline emotionless the rest of the game.

Then after the game...

Rondo seems like a guy who poisons every well he drinks from, eventually.

Seems like he's got issues. Needs to get some help to learn how to deal with other people.

Looks like he's joining the long list of NBA players whose personality caught up with them once their talent was no longer big enough to make putting up with them worth it.

If you were paying attention to Boston after 2012, what is happening w/ Rondo in Dallas isn't a surprise. He just hasn't been good.

I think maybe they hoped he could be more of a game manager who makes plays in the in-between, when the other team is focusing on his more talented teammates.  Like he did in 08.  Unfortunately he just doesn't have the same physical gifts he did back then.

I think the talent problems, and adjusting to a new team/coach, are making the attitude problems a lot worse.  Every player slows down sooner or later, from injury or age; some put their egos aside and adjust to their limitations, and some rage against the dying of the light.  Rondo's in the Dylan Thomas category.
