While everyone would love to sign either Aldridge or Gasol, what if we alternatively signed:

1.  Danny Green SG/SF - 7 Million a season for 4 years  - Has won several rings.  3 pt clutch shooter and good defender

2.  Ed Davis       PF/C - 4.5 Million a season for 3 years - Has added enough weight to guard some centers.  Explosive , above the rim athlete. Good shot blocker and rebounder when focused.  Former lotto pick

On Draft night pick
16. Jerian Grant - PG/SG- 6'5 score 1st pg.  good athlete. Clutch shooter.
28. Chris Mcculough - PF- 6'10 explosive PF. Due to injury and so so season drops. High Ceiling
33. Jarell Martin - PF/SF -6'10 explosive for size player.  Some compare him to T. Harris
45. George Lucas De Paula (draft and stash) - PG/SG - 6'5 and has a Reggie Jackson like wingspan (6'10 plus).  Explosive player but is very young. Draft and stash pick

Trade
Evan Turner for player (waived) and 2 future 2nd round picks

Starting lineup
C-   Zeller
PF-  Olynyk
SF - Danny Green
SG - Smart
PG - Jerian Grant

Bench
C - Ed Davis
PF - Sullinger
SF - Crowder
SG - AB
PG - IT

Extras
Young
Wallace
Pressey
Martin
Mcculough

Lost me on starting Grant over AB..

With that said the signings or Davis and Green would not be bad. Green would have to be brought in to play (thought slightly undersized) starting SF. This only happens if BS and DA think Marcus is prepared for more primary ball handler duties. Davis may be an option. To me PF and C will be the biggest question marks of the off season and the questions may not be answered this summer. Out of KO, Sully and Zeller do the Cs really have 1 or 2 long term starters? If not who is best suited to play the 3rd big role? What happens to Jerebko and Bass? Alot for DA to figure out. I personally think out of KO and Sully one guy needs to become the 3rd big and the other needs to be moved for a superior athlete. While he is never going to be an allstar I think Zeller is fine for now as the Cs 20-25 MPG starting center. I personally still like the idea of moving Sully and the necessary picks to make a run at Faried. He isn't an ideal fit on offense but as long as Zeller continues to improve his jump shot I think it can work. I am really high on Sully but fear that his health/conditioning issues will only get worse and the Cs will some day soon be forced to pay him big money or let him walk. I would rather be proactive and try to bring in a player locked up long term who will provide energy and hustle to the PF position.

Jerian Grant is ready for the NBA. As we can see, AB is not starting material.  The lineup is more balanced with smart, grant starting and ab and IT off the bench imo

Why would we want Gerald Green and Glenn Davis?!  ;D

If we don't sign them Doc definitely will. You know how he loves guys who played well pre-2010 and bringing them in for the bench.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Think that plan is just mediocre. Our issue now is we don't have a star, not that we need more ok players.

like i stated everyone wants a Gasol but what are the chances he comes here??

We need to keep improving the team and hope to add a star or a draft pick becomes a star down the line

Ed Davis would be an excellent signing. While I'm shaking my head at some of the stones being thrown Danny Green's way on this thread, I don't think he's an affordable luxury for us. We have Smart/AB/Young/Turner that all can play and/or need time at SG, while not much else is left over at SF after Turner and Crowder are done. I also think it's reasonable to suggest that the Cs could be adding 1-2 wings in the draft.

I'd like to see us move up for Myles Turner (ET, 16, 28, 45 for Miami's 10 + salary filler?), draft Luwawu or George Lucas with whatever 2nd we have left after moving up, sign Ed Davis as you said and then go and sign one of Middleton/Draymond Green.

Smart/IT/George Lucas
AB/James Young/[Smart]
Draymond Green/Jae Crowder/[Young]
Sullinger/Olynyk/[Ed Davis]
Zeller/Myles Turner/Ed Davis

That's a strong looking team. Very explosive, with the ability for all but 5 guys to break out at any point during the year (IT, AB, Green, Crowder, Zeller). Legitimate length and speed at every position except PF. Shooting at every position. Stevens would be giddy with this team. Make it happen, DA.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Could see Toronto going for both of these guys. Less so the Celtics.

Why not?  We need to add scorers that can score late and an above the rim pf/c.   Really need to add a legit rim protector , at least someone that can come off the bench

I think both Green and Davis are complementary pieces, not foundational ones. I like Green, but does he do so much more than Crowder that he'll help elevate the team to 50 wins? I don't really see it.

Toronto has Lowry and DeRozan as the primary scorers in that lineup. Green would slot in perfectly with his defense and shooting from the wing. And Davis would figure into the frontcourt mix nicely behind, or possibly next to, Jonas.

I don't think either of those guys move the needle much for the Celtics roster, presently constructed. Now, if Ainge were to then package up some other players for a single, starting caliber player, then maybe those pickups make more sense.

I would be happy if we signed Green, but I think the figure you suggested for your contract is too low.

Ed Davis wouldn't be a bad signing to protect the rim, but I think I would prefer Biyombo, because he's younger and might have higher upside.

As to draft picks, I would like to avoid 4 year college players in favor of a freshman who has a higher ceiling even if it comes with a lower floor.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

so?. the plan is to add to role players to a team of role players.  why?  we need players that are starting-quality, not more guys that would be coming off the bench if they were on good teams

Green is not a role player. He is a starter . Not consistently dominant but some games will go off for 28, 30 etc. Very good 3 pt shooter (41 percent avg last 3 season) good  defender and has won several rings. He can provide leadership he has learned as a member of the Spurs

Davis adds the above the rim guy we desperately need. He was good with memphis and with the lakers, well nobody would look good playing for them.

Lakers already having randle at the pf spot likely wont make much of an effort to retain davis. You can bet Davis will not pick up his player option for 1 mill

We add theae two plus my draft plan and we are a better team than todays version(with the hope that Sully, KO, smart progress) .  we make 4-6 seed next season, hopefully get past the 1st round and a key FA may want to join. Or luckily one of our picks will turn into a star. OR danny can pull a  2007-2008 and  trade our many assets fo a star or two

No thanks.

I would only want Green if we brought in someone like Love or Cousins.

Green is essentially the 2nd or 3rd piece you need.

So you want to come in 7th,8th place again next season?

I think the plan is underwhelming and not really that good, we may have to settle for less, but I wager the majority of us, want or hope for more.

We all do. But Danny is not a magician. It wont be easy to get/trade for a star .  my plan doesnt help us win a ring but it helps this team move fwd.

The landscape in the NBA can change radically at a moment's notice. I think it's better to wait for an opportunity for major improvement than to settle for smaller, incremental ones.
