I believe that the playoff presents a different challenge than the regular season and that in the playoffs coaching has a even greater impact on the result than in the regular season for the reason that playoff allows the coaches to focus on one team at a time over a series and adjustments can be implemented over a pool of games. This is where CBS thrives and this is where Celtics are going to prove to be dangerous.

The other factor is that the playoff requires high intensity play over a shorter span of time. For this you need a deep team and younger legs. Advantage Celtics.

Looking forward to Celtics in the playoffs, hope we make it in !!!!!!!!!

The playoffs are a totally different season, where stars matter more and depth matters less.

Not great for the Celtics.

Stars matter why? Because of the referees or because of their game? Because if it is because of their game a good coach can neutralize that.

Enter Popovich. That is why he has been so successful in the playoffs without winning the regular season derby.

Eh ... Popovich has been successful in the playoffs while also regularly winning the regular season derby.

The Spurs have won with ball movement in recent years, it's true.  But they still have stars.  Kawhi is one of the best young players in the league.  Tim Duncan is still an elite player even at 38.

To answer your first question, yes, it's because of both.  Stars are able to continue coming up big even though the game is called differently (allowing more physical play) and even though the other team gets to gameplan extensively to stop them.

I guess the Celtics could be the only playoff team with NO star on the court,  should we actually get in that is.  :D

I like being the underdog tho

Stevens is used to this position...having to do more with less......I think he loves the challenge of coaching his team of over achievers to bring down the big cats

Deep teams and younger legs mean more during the regular season than the playoffs.  In the playoffs, the pace of the game slows down and the schedule is more relaxed.  Rotations are reduced to 8 or 9 players.  Star players and starters minutes in general go up.  Playoff teams are mostly good defensive teams so you need to have an efficient half court offensive to be successful.  The Celtics are at a decided disadvantage in the playoffs.

all true, but best of all the wins and loses dont affect draft standings, so we can all relish the celtics wins to the fullest extent, and properly lament the losses, as all fans should.

the push/pull, lottery/playoff debates will finally be moot.

gooooo celtics!!!

This gels quite nicely with your longstanding theory that Doc was an integral part to the Celtics post-season success.

Oh, wait.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Oh, wait.

Haha ...Doc is looking at an early exit in the playoffs. Go Houston.

I would put the Clippers with the Warriors, Cavaliers, and Spurs with their recent play. They look pretty tough right now.
