There are a lot of kids coming into the NBA before exhausting their NCAA eligibility. Some of these kids are ready for the NBA and do not have a problem making an NBA squad. Some are borderline and struggle back and forth from the NBA to the D league. There are some that you know must be stashed away in Europe for a couple of years.
Which of the three options is the three options is the best for a borderline kid. Staying in the NCAA, going to the NBA when you know you will be shipped to the D league, or going to the NBA when you know you will be shipped to Europe. This question is obviously from the kids perspective.
The second question is from the perspective of the team. Which option is most cost-effective for the NBA team. And by cost-effective I mean the cash outlay and the attendant risk of profiting from that investment or losing the player, if they improve, to another team?
