I agree he started slowly, but for me he has been better than Smart the last 20 or 30 games.
Smart puts in the effort but can't stay in front of fast guards.
That said, and considering Avery's whole season... no, he shouldn't make it. Post All-Star, yeah, he should.
Just off top of my head, reddick, oj mayo killed him. Use couple of last teo seasons as a comparison with this one, it seamed that he got a frontcourt/centercourt steal every game, this year, I don t recall any of thoose
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

Just a random list of guards who are equal of better defenders:

Chris Paul
Jimmy Butler
Danny Green
Tony Allen
Marcus Smart *
Mike Conely
Kyle Lowery
Eric Bledsoe
George Hill
Tony Parker
Steph Curry

You can debate a few - but saying he definitely deserves to be one of the top 2 defensive guards in the NBA is a stretch......

Many would see the statement as arrogant or maybe just over stating his ability. Good to see that he has the belief and confidence though.

He sounds angry about it and he proclaims himself as the best on-ball defender in the league. (I disagree with this)
Does he really deserve it? I say yes because there are few guys in the league who can lockdown and stay in ftont of point guards and smaller shooting guards. Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard said that AB is the the player who guards them the best.

What's your opinion on this?

Love the fact that he thinks this way.

Saying that Tony Parker or Steph Curry are as good as AB is ridiculous.
