I am not a huge fan of him because of his injury history and lack of defense, but should the c's offer him a max ?

They take away talent from the nets, while adding to their own roster. Maybe you put a player option in after 2 years so he can get a bigger pay day after 2016 if he plays up to the contract.

Nets very likely fall into the lottery next year .

Thoughts?

A thousand times no.

Also, I would be surprised if Lopez exercised his ETO this offseason.  I expect he'll wait until 2016 free agency for cap increase and better health.

I would not. I think his inability to stay healthy would make it a bad idea. Also his lumbering style doesn't really fit with the way Stevens has said he likes to play.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Interesting idea...will he take time away from players that need development?

Wouldn't they be able to reload by offering a max to someone better?

I think we could offer a 3 or4 yr max deal , with a player option after year 1 or 2 . That way Lopez could opt out if he has a big year next year and could up his salary , or if he gets injured has insurance with a few more years on his contract .

It would be a bit of a risk for the c's , but could also result in a top 5-10 pick next year .

to be fair, I think there will be other teams out there that will sign Brook. The Nets are crumbling and Brook might want to get out asap. Maybe the Thunder, Indiana, LA, Washington will be interested? I am not worried about us robbing the Nets of talent.

Too late.  Ainge took care of that a few years ago.

i'd worry that the nets would then just sign someone better in his place. you couldnt guarantee that wouldnt happen and then the move would backfire.

Lopez has been showing more effort on defense and on the boards, and he's obviously an excellent offensive player.  One a one- or two-year deal, I'd probably gamble on him.

But on a full max?  You just can't, with his injury history.  He's one foot injury away from being out of the league.  Plus, outside of this (potential) contract year push, he hasn't shown much of a commitment to rebounding or D.
