http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12561256/2015-front-office-rankings-top-coaches

Our front-office rankings continue with a look at the NBA's 30 current head coaches -- the league's on-court decision-makers.

We asked our ESPN Forecast panel to rate every team's coach. In particular, we asked the voters to rate each coach on his guidance and leadership in terms of how it affects overall on-court success, both in the short and long term.

(On Tuesday, we unveiled our overall front-office rankings. On Wednesday, we broke down our rankings of team presidents and GMs. On Friday, we'll reveal our owner rankings.)

Here's how the 30 coaches rank, according to our panel:

Rank   Team   Rating
1   San Antonio Spurs
Gregg Popovich   9.70
2   Atlanta Hawks
Mike Budenholzer   8.78
3   Golden State Warriors
Steve Kerr   8.39
4   Dallas Mavericks
Rick Carlisle   8.22
5   Chicago Bulls
Tom Thibodeau   7.87
6   Miami Heat
Erik Spoelstra   7.48
7   Portland Trail Blazers
Terry Stotts   7.17
8   Los Angeles Clippers
Doc Rivers   7.13
9
(tie)   Boston Celtics
Brad Stevens   7.04
9
(tie)   Indiana Pacers
Frank Vogel   7.04

Sweet. Strong showing for a rookie coach.

Who, Steve Kerr?  ;)

-The Celtics do great work with trade exceptions, turning one from their blockbuster trade with the Nets into both Tyler Zeller and Isaiah Thomas this season.

[And the] Boston Celtics all have either an innovative owner (Mark Cuban) and/or GM (Daryl Morey, Neil Olshey, Danny Ainge) who aren't afraid to try new ways of attacking old problems.

I like the job the Oklahoma City Thunder and Celtics have done in the draft (I don't mean drafting guys such as Kevin Durant). Regardless of place in the draft, they select talent with their picks, then they invest the time, patience and energy into developing that talent.

With a few notable exceptions, such as Cuban, the best owners are the ones who provide the necessary financial support and trust the executives they hire need to do their jobs. San Antonio is again the model in this regard, given the stability that has existed on Peter Holt's watch. Boston, Houston and Miami all belong in the top five by that rationale. Dallas and Golden State have excelled with more ownership involvement.

That's really good considering the amount of roster instability he was/is dealing with. His future as a NBA coach looks bright.

Well considering he's not as good as the C's previous head coach (#8) or his assistant (#5), or former C's championship player and Danny's former teammate (#4), clearly Danny's not doing his job and should be fired.

Stevens at #9?  This is the Celtics!  The C's don't settle for anything but #1! Fire Danny! Fire Stevens!  Banner 18!

I have to ask about this.  What?  Is he doing anything special with Miami this year?  I understand ranking him high when he's going to the Finals every year, it's hard to look bad with LeBron/Wade/Bosh and ring chasing vets.  But has he really built that kind of reputation where he's #6 even though his team is under-performing now?  Most people had Miami clearly in the playoffs this year with a winning record, no?  And they were losing before Bosh went out, so you can't blame injuries.

I don't know, I just don't see it.

Well, unless there is a plan to somehow lure Pop away from San Antonio I imagine the C's will always have to settle for "second best". Guess they might as well just fold up shop now.

Kerr hadn't proven anything

I don't recall Kerr ever coaching anything?

Rivers is good ....not top ten .....ducky is just lucky Danny set him up ....or Glen might not have a head coach job ...if DA doesn. 'T bring the big three together,

Yeah, that's why I made the crack about Steve Kerr. Stevens isn't a rookie coach, unless IP is using the word to mean that he's with his first team/on his first deal.

He came in midseason last year.  Technically, he's still a rookie coach.
