if we sign Monroe and draft a center, how many wins

The problem with Greg Monroe, who I really like as a player, is he's really best playing the 5. SVG found that out this year. He and Drummond often start together and depending on match-up might play a fair amount together, but Monroe does all his damage within 17 ft of the basket. If your gonna try to have him play the 4, you need a 5 who can not only protect the rim but also can stretch the floor.

Not impossible, Myles Turner kinda fits that mold, but it's easier finding a 4 who can shoot and defend than a 5. A back-court like Monroe/ WCS just doesn't space the floor enough for us. Even with Olynyk as the 3rd big.

I would love to see the celtics sign Monroe but he is not going to be a huge upgrade over Sully in anything other then health and long term sustainability. The have very similar skill sets and are statistically similar (especially considering sully is 2yrs younger). They both are passable but limited defenders. The reason for signing monroe is my eyes is projecting 5 years from now. I worry that Sullys health and weight are going to be an every year problem for the Cs. Couple that to the jumping sallary cap and I worry that sully comes back healthy averages a double double in the years left in his rookie deal then the Cs sign him for big $$ only to see him fall apart physically. Monroe is just a safer bet.

As for a center, the celtics are not drafting a center who is going to be an improvement over Zeller next season. Okafor, Towns, Prozingis and WCS will all be off the board. Kaminsky is going to be more of a PF and like KO better suited to be a teams 3rd big. Poeltl and Turner are both at least 2 seasons away from really contributing. The one big who the Cs could draft who would be ready to play and fit with Monroe and KO is Harrell,

In terms of wins with or without Monroe (figuring Crowder and Jerkbo or Bass return) I think next season this team is a 40-45 win team. The key rotational players on this team are all young enough to keep improving and this with or without roster acquisitions will lead to more wins unless the east sees a huge improvement next year.

Monroe is a significant upgrade over Sullinger.  He is not only better at virtually every key stat (especially in efficiency), he plays more games and more minutes per game, the latter two by a pretty wide margin.  Sullinger has more range, but when you are shooting your career high from three this year and it is 28.9% maybe you shouldn't be shooting so much from outside.

Rookie centers drafted in 10-15 range don't usually provide much instant help to their teams. Centers who make a difference right away get selected near the top of the first round. Not the middle. So whoever Celtics get their is unlikely to make much of a difference to W-L record in their 1st year. So improvement is almost all down to Monroe's addition.

It would be more of an unexpected bonus than something you can depend on -- center drafted in 10-15 range making an instant impact.

To further that point, since 2000, the most impactful center as a rookie drafted between 10 and 15 was Brook Lopez and his 13/8.  In fact he is the only center with double digit points.  He is also the only one with at least 8 rebounds a game as a rookie (he might be the only one with at least 6 or 7 rebounds as well, I didn't look that closely).  Most of the centers drafted in that range barely play, even ones that go on to have solid careers like Biedrins, Bynum, and Sanders.

I really think that JS will be gone if he does not show up in shape with a better attitude.   Ainge served public notice.  You can bet he will back it up if Sluginer shows up instead of Sullinger.

I have a feeling that KO will be the one we keep.

Jonas is a FA after this year, no?  So who knows if he will be around.

IMO Monroe doesn't seem like a candidate for the full time center position. He can play center in a pinch, but he hasn't shown the defensive intensity or desire to want to be the man in the middle. He doesn't protect the rim, or play in your face one on one defense like we would like. It's just not his game.

He would be an upgrade over either any of our present power forwards, he shows up every night, his stats are solid and steady.

My thoughts are, Monroe at starting PF and match him with a young defensive minded center from the draft if possible. Keep Zeller as a back up center/PF, and keep a few of our corps of power forwards for the right price.

This is just one scenario, we could also be lucky enough to attain a top free agent Center and match him with the best of our power forwards.

Then try like heck to improve the SF position.

What do you guys think about this? Montrez Harrell! A high energy (shot blocking?) 4 to pair with Monroe. (Not sure which pick Montrez is gonna go, I've seen as early as our first pick and as late as the Clips pick)

I guess this might not space the floor but it would make up for Monroe's struggles protecting the rim. We'd have IT, Young, Crowder, Olynyk/Sully, Zeller, Clippers pick off the bench

We draft the Miles Turner Project. A YOUNG big with a possible shot at being an Elite Rim protector along with a decent long range shooter.

I like WCS, I like is ability to defend out to the circle. He's very athletic and quick for a big man, he really can move his feet, he likes to defend, seems like a good citizen too.
