People, Pierce has earned a whooping $195M during his career. Very few ppl have ever had such financial gain.

If he simply parked $50M of those proceeds in a series of S&P500 indexed fixed annuities, since these annuities are basically principal protected to a 0% loss during market sell off years but capped during bullish years minus a management fee; they are a rather conservative investment. His $50M would be $91M between years 2001 and 2011, as he wouldn't get burnt during the sell offs in '01-'02 and '08-'09.

And no, he doesn't have to hire a crooked money manager. This is something anyone can do on one's own.

So Vet's minimum, in the end, isn't going to hurt Paul's retirement, as he'll clearly have enough money for the remainder of his life.

And he can still make more money as he should. The C's aren't winning a title anytime soon. He can come back later before he hangs 'em up.

Here's the thing, if Smart becomes a solid combo guard, like JoJo White, and then, the other players are solid role players, with Pierce as the sixth man, it may be possible to attract an all star in FA or be able to trade for one. And then, one more added star, and we're contenders.

Pierce still has it, for 10-12 mins per contest.

I think if we can convince Love or some other good player to come to Boston and Pierce would come back to finish out his career here.

Exactly.

If we can get another veteran or two, Pierce might be interested in coming back.

And to answer the question, I'd LOVE to have Paulie back.

No. Too much locker room upheaval. All perceived leaders would have to immediately defer to Pierce because of what he's done for the franchise, only to try to revert back after he retires in a year or two.  On a title contender with mutual respect that may fly, and it would even have worked if Pierce was while we acquired the players, but now, it's too late.

The Celtics are establishing a culture as the team grows up together, and adding a franchise legend like Pierce, while a unique, tempting opportunity, would disrupt the delicate balance that is being built upon.

I think this is spot on. This team is just beginning to forge its own identity as a young team. Plus, I don't think Pierce would want to come back just to be in green - maybe if some of his old friends and teammates were still here, but without that, he'd be giving up a lot just for sentimentality's sake.

If we were to pull of 'fireworks' this summer, perhaps he could be part of them, but without other moves, it doesn't make sense for either PP or the C's.
