Would you bring back Marcus Thornton

I kind of miss the guy.  I was hoping when we got IT , MT would not be included.

He had some horrible games but more often than not had good games for the Celts.   like IT can score 8 straight pts and get you back in the game.  We could of used him tonight against the Spurs. The team overall was a little faster when he was on the roster.

Next season would you bring him back for a 3 year 12 million dollar contract?  You could always use a guy like Thornton.  I know the Celtics are hoping James Young could be that guy.  But he has ways to go.

Thornton is not a good basketball player and you want to tie up 4M a year on him for the next 3 years. This is a really bad idea.

Please don't respond with a youtube highlight video. I've seen him plenty and know what he can do (get hot maybe once every 2 weeks) and what he can't (defend, shot selection, shoot with consistency, lack of athleticism). He's a gunner with really bad aim.

Sure I would if the $ were right (under 4 million per seems ok). I myself rather have Thornton back than Crowder, Jerekbo, or Gigi. Bringing back Thornton for backup SG means you are set at SG for 3 years. C's can keep developing Young slowly or split his PT at SG/SF which isn't bad. If Young develops you have decent guys to trade for more assets.

Thorton is your typical guy with a highlight video that you can tell from a mile away is composed of 4-5 games max.

Yes, he led the Celtics on many (if not most) of their 3rd or 4th quarter come backs.

Thornton is a gunner only.  He can put up numbers in a pinch, but we already have a microwave-type scorer in Isaiah Thomas.  Not to mention IT is already tied up to a cap friendly long term deal.

I would rather spend our free agent dollars on our real needs - rim protector and/or a versatile scoring SF.  We will address one of these needs in the draft.  I'd rather save our cap space to splurge on one bona fide FA star, then use it up on journeman/role players such as Thornton.

No offense to Thornton, but we could do better with our cap space.  He's a good player for the right situation, but I don't feel at this time that he is a good fit for the Celtics.

I'm surprised at the hate. He is a good player and seemed to be a pretty likable guy here too. Lets not think he is more than he is or ever will be, but why trash him on the way out? I hope we can get someone better but say we swing 2 really big trades and bring in 2 stars and we need to fill out the team again ala summer of 08. If we need a bench scorer and there is no one better I'd take him back.

I think Thornton surprised a lot of folks thinking he was just another Wallace-type throw-in for some assets (1st and Zeller). He did a good job for this team and was a stand-up citizen, but unless your ideal scenario occurs above (bringing in two stars and beginning to contend), then I don't really see a place for him in our rotation.

No hate - just would probably fit in better on another team.

I don't understand the hate either.  This is a guy in certain situations can extend the lead for you or help you get back into the game in a jiffy

He meshed well with the group also.
