In 3 moves or less (1 Draft Move, 1 Trade, 1 Free Agent Signing), create your best-case scenario for this offseason.
Context: we make the playoffs as the 8th seed and play Atlanta tough, but we end up losing in game 6 or 7. We end up with picks 15 and 22.
Let's try and keep it semi-realistic, too, i.e. were not signing Lebron, trading for Anthony Davis, or winning the lottery with the Clips pick this year.
Move 1: WCS falls to the mid to late lottery, and we combine our picks and/or players to move up and grab him.
Move 2: Bulls management and Thibodeau finally part ways, and transitioning to a new era the notoriously cheap owner doesn't want to pay Butler the max. We use the Marquette connection, our recent success, and Coach Stevens to sway Butler into asking for a sign and trade to Boston. We trade them Wallace, Sully, Young, and the Brooklyn 2018 pick for a maxed out Butler.
Move 3: We sign Love to a max one-year contract giving him the opportunity to opt out next year and sign a bigger, long-term contract. This would give him the chance to be "the man" on our squad, while also having the pieces around him to help complement him and mask his weaknesses.
This would give us a lineup of:
PG: Smart, IT
SG: Bradley, Turner
SF: Butler, Crowder (resigned)
PF: Love, KO
C: WCS, Zeller
This team has the potentil to be elite defensively, while still having some above-average to elite scorers in Butler and Love. We'd also be incredibly deep with an excellent second-unit. I could see this unit even challenging for the Eastern Conference Final as soon as next year, while still being young enough to be a powerhouse for years to come.
This is my best-case scenario for this offseason in three moves. What's yours?
