We may have skipped a year on the rebuild this year. Lets look back a year. We still had Rondo and Green and it looked like a shot at Love. That would have been the quickest rebuild, just sign love and any vets you can and try to win. It didn't happen. It was worth taking the chance because it would have been a really quick rebuild but it didn't work and who knows what happened behind the scenes but Danny felt he had to trade Rondo and Green.

What a mess right? After Love went to Cle and it was apparent that we sucked, the common thought was it will be a few years before we can think about being good. But somehow the team ot scraps we have now has come together and played better than the team we gutted just a few months ago.

I realize that its really a glorified bench team that is over achieving. Let's not throw them a parade. But, it really is something special. I think we just possibly skipped a year of being in the gutter.

Is it probable that we get a Gasol or Love to sign here in the summer? No. It is not. But, its not as big of a long shot as it really should be months after trading our 2 best players. At this point on our rebuild stars should laugh at the idea of signing here. But I bet they seriously consider it and in the end find a better option.

The point is we are back on track. We've hit the bottom and are rising. You don't look at our roster an say to yourself, "what a bunch of losers." And when you think about it, that is really something.

All kudos to the great Brad Stevens. He is the ultimate young player development coach and it's showing. Even a player like Bass has improved his game under him (shooting 3's, driving to the hoop without turning the ball over like he used to under overrated Doc).

I agree, I remember when Bass came the first year, this young man surprised me. But all the years after that he was just a solid guy.
This year I start to see Bass as if he finally understood how to reach his potential. He won't be a much better player, but he's improving and I really like what he's doing right now on the floor. I would never thought Bass was capable to bring energy to the team that way. How can you explain that, specially after so many years playing with much better than him? Well, I seriously think it's CBS under the shadow.

Dodged a bullet ,,resigning Rondo for mega deal.   I don't believe anybody now ,after seeing what he has done on Dallas will,offer him anything near a max contract.  I think he will be lucky to get the Mavs to resign him for a decent contract .

Not signing Asik or Rondo and picking up IT were huge decisions in the Celtics favor.

Yeah but our record is pretty meaningless as a way to judge our current team as there has been so much turn over (perhaps the most on a team in one season ever- how can I check that?)


As for Rondo's next contract, I still believe in him. Whoever gets him will probably get a really good deal. Maybe I'm wrong- the stats and public opinion seem to say so- But when RR turns it on he gets to a much higher level than almost anyone else in the world is capable of.

I agree, Brad Stevens deserves a heck lot of credit and so does Danny. Danny is stockpiling in assets for a rebuild and you can't blame Brad for the up and downs this season as Danny is gutting the entire team. He makes this team focus on the long term goal and makes them play hard. As the OP said, these are glorified bench players that are overachieving.

We're 6-4 since IT joined the roster (not counting SAC when none of the new players dressed), 11-9 in our last 20, and 14-13 since Green was traded.  That's obviously not a championship pace, but we were 12-23 when the Green trade went down.  Not looking at reasons, but this current roster has been performing at a 45-win pace for the last two months, which is very different than we started.  Sure, it could just be two months, and we certainly have some difficult games coming up, but I'd say 14-13 with this roster of largely young players and unwanted veterans that has to play small lineups a lot is largely overachieving.  And if it's not overachieving, that's a great sign for the future, because that means we have a core that can be a .500 team, and adding a major piece can take this team to the next level.

Rondo is not a good fit in Carlisle's system (or ours). In my opinion he should go to Indiana to play along with Hibbert and George. Better fit there.

This is perfect, TP! You're right people seemed absolutely positive we were headed to a 5 year rebuild. Now here we are at the end of year two and we have some sort of relevance! I trust Danny Ainge!

A great deal of the credit belongs to Brad Stevens. Truly one of the best young coaches in the game. He's got these guys to buy in, and he's extracting every ounce of talent these guys have in them.

When we traded Rondo and Green I was just hoping this team of young guys and castoffs could stay competitive and not get blown out much. At the time of the Green trade, it was fair to say we had one of the 5 worst rosters in the NBA. But we've done more than that. We're playing seriously competitive ball. 14-13 over the last 27 games! Is that great? No, but it's considerably better then we should be. And Stevens is the reason we've been playing so well. DA has to do everything he can to keep him here for the long haul. Imagine what he'll do when we actually get talent.

In regards to the rebuild, they're ahead of where I thought they'd be.  It certainly feels like they may have shaved a year or two off this thing based on what's transpired this season.   Record really isn't that indicative since it doesn't factor in cap/asset factors.
