Still love Embiid's potential and wish him well, but a big man with both back and foot problems at 20 does not bode well for his career.

but... but... but...  the 76ers can't do anything wrong... their owner is so smart and everything is so bright for them.

Sorry to judge, but it doesn't look like such a great idea to draft a big man with a history of injuries with the number three pick in the draft.

So you think that DA would have passed on Embid so he could take Smart if Embid fell to us last year?  Cmon.  Big guys are crap shoots in the draft.  They take a long time to develop, but if you get a chance to take a chance on one with a boatload of potential you take it.

Btw, does anyone think that Embid has put on a ton of weight since last year?  He has seriously filled out.

I have no idea if Danny would have drafted Embiid.  I certainly hope he wouldn't have.

But then again, I live in Portland OR and have watched the Blazers draft Sam Bowie and Greg Oden.

This could be nitpicking but it is interesting these little digs keep coming out against embiid that seem to be originating from someone related to Philly. First a story on his weight gain and fighting with a trainer, then a story denying his weight gain. Than a leaked story from a weird source that he was put on the block.

"Sometimes when we turn our heads he'll go out there and take a shot or do that dunk," Brown continued. "But he gets it. He has been responsible with most of it. We just have to make sure that we continue to help put him in environments that will allow him to maximize his health.

I mean none of this is major stuff, but why not just say he is doing great and its a precaution and leave it at that...

I wish him a full recovery and I hope our team beats him and the Sixers repeatedly over the next decade. Let all of them be as fit as possible and we still dominate them!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Just goes to show you that Top 5 draft picks regularly have very poor outcomes.

When you read the full quote, it is quite positive.  I'd be concerned if Embiid was content to take it slow and sit out the season.  Of course the Sixers have no intention of playing him so this minor setback fits right into their plans.

"He gets excited to be on a court, and he was proud of his growth, coming back to where he was doing a little bit more and more," Brown said about Embiid being overly ambitious at times. "We have to tame him, calm him down, because he just wants to be on the court. He's dying to play basketball.

"Sometimes when we turn our heads he'll go out there and take a shot or do that dunk," Brown continued. "But he gets it. He has been responsible with most of it. We just have to make sure that we continue to help put him in environments that will allow him to maximize his health.

"When he did experience some minor pain he brought it to our attention and we just wanted to stay on top of it," Brown concluded.

FWIW they're say its muscle soreness now that his activities are increasing. Which kinda makes sense, it's obv not good news but I think it's much more of a non-story than people think.

At least his back appears fine  ;)

It is very possible that he will never play a full season, and perhaps equally possible that he becomes a star.  Philly is rolling the dice, going for broke.  It appears that Danny would have been willing to do the same for Embiid.  Only time will tell.

Tazz we get it. You love the 76ers.

Think of it this way. If the Celtics, Red Sox or Patriots had a top prospect and there were stories occasionally coming out that they were on the block, that they got in an altercation with a trainer, that they had gained a lot of weight etc... everyone would be discussing what these little stories meant and where they were coming from. They are of interest to a national level just cause he was the number 3 pick in the draft. We can bury our head in the sand and ignore it, but why not just discuss it.

I find it hard to get excited about Embiid with all these injuries.

Happy Embiid was off the table by the time Ainge picked.

While I don't wish any player injuries, and Embiid seems like a nice dude - I HATE THE 76RS!!!!

I hate what they are doing to the game of basketball. They have taken a flaw in the system and exploited it to the max. They are making a mockery a sport I love and the great franchise they once were, and I wish them nothing but the worst.

It has gotten to the point where I hope the Lakers get a top 5 pick so they don't send them their pick.

I hope they stay in the Celler for 20 years as a warning to all other clubs from the gods of basketball.

Thank you Philly for taking Embiid and not Smart. You guys could have drafted Exum or Randle and traded MCW while his value was at his highest (coming off ROY). Wiggins and Parker were gone but they sure as heck gambled hard on Embiid. I wanted him actually, but after getting Marcus Smart and seeing what he has the potential of becoming I'm not even mad we picked at #6. Karma, NBA, you wanted to give LeRoid a new star-studded team by rigging the lottery and look at what happened.

It is too early to tell, and Exum or Embiid may end up better than Smart. I love Smart - but young players like Exum, and Bigs take time to blossom.

That being said - I hope every pick the 76rs have horded turns out to be Darko Milicic / Kwame Brown / Walter White bad....

I mean they just got a top 5 protected pick from a terrible team for MCW. Nobody was giving up more than that, it's a massive overpay as is.

And Smart's offensive game has a loooooong way to go.
