After his explosion tonight I discovered that this is what ESPN has on him for "fantasy spin":

Quote
Spin: Jerebko said he is healthy enough to play, but Celtics coach Brad Stevens cautioned that the team's recent accusation won't necessarily be in Sunday's rotation.

Acquisition maybe? ESPN - quality media.

Who knew Olynyk played for Australia?

That's not a misspelling though, just a bad bit of headline copy.

From ESPN Insider:

Scouting report
+ Long a stretch-4 option, finally lived up to billing last season.
+ Made more than two-thirds of looks from corners.
+ Coming off career season on defensive glass.

Analysis
Jerebko finally fulfilled his promise as a stretch-4 in the NBA last season, hitting 42 percent from downtown, 10 percent higher than his previous career best. Jerebko was particularly deadly from the corners. According to Basketball-Reference.com, Jerebko took about 30 percent of his 3s from the corners and shot an unreal 68 percent on those looks. Jerebko also posted a career-best defensive rebound rate and is above average on the glass overall. His defensive RPM was plus-0.8.

Yet he was on the wrong team for all of these traits despite Detroit's need for long-range shooting, because of the three big men the Pistons needed to wedge on the floor. That problem limited Jerebko to just 12 minutes per game. It's not going to get better, especially with the likelihood that Smith plays more at power forward. Jerebko is entering the last year of his contract, and if he decides to stay in the NBA beyond this season, he shouldn't have any trouble finding a team that can leverage his ability.

he is in that last year of his contract and he is making $4,500,000. could he ever be more than the 7-8th guy off the bench?

my questions are:

- do you think his next contract be a substantial increase, or roughly the same as now?

- at what salary, if any, should the celtics try to resign him?

just for fun, he is 27 and his career stats are:

20 min/g
7.2 pts/g
4.2 rbs/g
0.7 ast/g
0.2 bks/g

51.5%/33.8%/76.1%

and he plays good defense, by all accounts.

last question, is he better than crowder? not so sure on that.

If we can get assets for Jerebko, I'm sure Danny would move him.  DA would trade his own mom, if it made the Celtics better.   :D

As far as keeping him?  He's a nice bench piece.  But he would probably cost around 4.5m to retain.  I'm not sure he will be with us long term.  In the meantime, just enjoy his good shooting from long range and the corners.  Stevens will find a way to use him.

Except we're past the deadline and Jerebko is not signed for next season.  ::)

Maybe we can resign him and then move him? He's solid.

I know very little about him, but based on last night and this thread (which is basically it) I wouldn't give him more in his next contract.

He really seemed to struggle defensively. There were a couple times where he whiffed on trapping the PNR and gave up easy passes to Bargnani for layups.

He's basically as good a shooter as Crowder. I think the question is do you want a very good rebounder in Jerebko or do you want a very good versatile defender in Crowder. Personally if a team really goes hard after Jerebko I would just let him go and use Crowder in the stretch-4 role.

I like him, but he's probably not a priority. We can probably get similar production from Olynyk off the bench.

Speaking about Bargnani... boy, does he look huge. And not in a good way.

I have read that Ainge thas liked him before this acquisition.

Quote
“We wanted to see how those two players fit with us,” Ainge said. “They’re players we’ve liked before that we watched play and develop, and we want to see how they fit in our system. We want to see how they fit with our coaches and mesh with our players.

“Jerebko is a guy we’ve tried to acquire,” Ainge said. “He has been in and out of the rotation in Detroit through his career there,” Ainge said.  He’s had some very good stretches. I thought that when they (Detroit) made the Josh Smith move earlier this year he was getting some time and I really liked what I saw in him and how he was playing for Detroit.

He was second team all rookie prior to the injury folks.  I think his skillset works well with Steven's offense.
