I wonder what the price would've been..
maybe 2 far future first-rounders? That's probably as far as I was willing to pay.

Edit: Since posters are questioning credibility.

Forbes article seems like hacky speculation.  I sincerely doubt Embiid was seriously available.

I find it weird that Forbes has an article on this lol

But I think this is more bad news than good news for Embiid, because why would the Sixers be giving up so easily on Embiid? From all indications, the kid has a Hall of Fame potential/ceiling, so why would they be so willing to give up a piece like that?

If true, I bet they think he's too immature or not ready for the professional basketball life, or that they have inside knowledge about his injuries being career-altering.

It's pretty much a catch 22.

Purportedly was open to listening to offers for Embiid, but ultimately kept him. That they aren't closed off to the concept of parting with Embiid doesn't strike me as egregious. This just reads as a  hatchet job written by a cranky old man. I don't understand the outrage over trading MCW for the eventual Laker pick. Should they have stubbornly committed to MCW even if they didn't like his game and were presented with a decent offer?

Also, it sounds as though this guy is actually surprised to learn that Embiid would be out for the entire year. I thought that everyone knew this to be the case long ago.

What did they get for MCW, the Suns protected Lakers pick for this year? Dang. Now I hope LA does stay in the top 5, because Philly could legitimately get a top 3 pick and the number 6 pick or so. That's scary. They could land Mudiay and Johnson to pair with Embiid and Noel!

Yeah from my understanding from Philly's end it was basically MCW for the Lakers/Suns pick.

The general consensus is PHX just got destroyed at the deadline. They were in a tough spot with the Dragic situation, but when the dust settled they had dealt Dragic, IT, Plumlee, Ennis, and the Laker pick for Knight, the protected distant Heat picks, 2016 Cleveland 1st(protected), and 20 mil in cap relief ( ~ ten of which is surely earmarked for Knight this summer).

Unless I'm missing something, they gave up a lot more than they got back. But I digress....

I didn't see where Woj or any serious sports reporter said Embiid was made available.  This is just a Forbes hack making groundless speculation.

I like the Knight get for them. That will be a good backcourt for them for a long time, but that price was overkill for just Knight, especially if the Lakers end up giving up their pick this year.

Philly is going to be set up REAL nice if they get that Lakers pick, because they also have their own pick, the Heat pick, and OKC's 1st, too (top 18 protected).

This was the Suns deadline

Acquired - Knight, Thornton, Granger, 2016 Cavs, 2017 Heat, 2021 Heat, Marshall and Salmons (who they waived)
Relinquished - Thomas, Dragic, Dragic, 2015 Lakers (top 5 - top 3 in 16 & 17, unprotected in 18)

So there really is no way to know if the Suns won those trades until 2021 as they might actually get the 1st pick in the draft that year or if the Lakers fall in the top 5 this year and then get some quality free agents next year and that pick ends up being a mid to late 1st rounder in 2016.  Until one or two of those things happen, just no way to know on the trades.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If Embiid was available, Danny made an offer for him.

If we didn't get him, Danny felt the price was too high, or Hinkie thought the bid was too low.

End of story.

I don't believe at all that Embiid was available.  If you read the article it sounds like someone who doesn't understand the NBA at all.  He's lumping in Embiid as a "young Philly player", because he saw KJ McDaniels and MCW traded.  MCW was traded because Philly (and pretty much everyone else) felt he was supremely overrated and will likely get a better player out of the pick they received.  KJ McDaniels is whatever.  Embiid is seen as a future superstar.  They probably made him available on draft-day in an attempt to trade up to get Wiggins (their desired target), but beyond that it wouldn't make sense for them to trade him.   Sure, they probably would have listened if someone offered LeBron James, but they definitely weren't actively shopping him.

They drafted the guy.  Stuck him on a horrible team where management did everything possible to ensure it would suck.  He was Rookie of the Year.  And they unloaded him for a pick that can't be better than #6 this year and, if they don't get this year, will probably be in the 10 to 14 range of the lottery at best next year.  I really doubt the Lakers will try for a 15 win season again.

I'm not the biggest MCW fan but Philly has set back their rebuild by at least another year without any guarantee of actually being improved.

Can give enough TPs.
It's nice seeing him get exposed as overrated after having argued with fellow fans for years that he was overrated.. but I don't hate him. I'm looking forward to seeing him [...] bounce around to a couple more teams... eventually come back to Boston[...] and helps us as a role player until he runs himself out of the league.
