Facts ~  Prince wanted a buy out....

Boston got a fyler on two players younger than the play sent out, and cleaned up a TPE.    More options to sign a layer for 7.7 Million vs a 5 Million and 2.3.    Prince is happy, Detroit is happy.   Boston is not a better team today, but it gives us the potential to be better tomorrow!

I think Ainge made the trade for a few reasons

1. Adds a 7.7 mil trade exception. I never thought much of these and they arent always valuable ( I believe Golden State let a 8 mil + one expire) but Danny turned the Pierce one into Zeller and Thomas so this could grab us a decent piece or two this summer
2. Adds some front court depth, with Sully down we are very thin at the 4/5. Jerebko can come in and give us 15-20 minutes a night.
3.  I believe when Prince came, Danny talked to him and said effectively: "If you play hard for the next month, we promise we will either move you to a playoff team or buy you out" As Prince was a model citizen Danny had to move him or else he could go to the Clips which would hurt the Clips pick
3b. As someone mentioned, Ainge has earned a lot of capital around the league with agents and GMs, he has moved most of his guys to contenders/ good places for them and has helped out several GMs in the process.

This, I think is being hugely overlooked.

  • Opened up playing time for Young (in combination with the Thornton trade, he turned a SG and SF into a PG and PF, opening up a wing spot for Young)
  • Stopped the Clippers from getting Prince (the other option was buy him out) which would have made our draft pick from them this year worse
  • Consolidated the two exceptions into a larger one, which can now be used more creatively

Very good trade IMO

Didn't Danny like Datome?  This gives Datome an extended tryout with the C's.  If he does well, they pick up his option.  If not, bye.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I'm with the OP ...I think it was a thumbing his nose at the Celtics fans .  TP to OP ....Danny succeeded .....in making the Celtics worse once again ......those two clowns he added aren't fit to be in the Chinese league

SMH .... :-X

No Prince ....back to losing games

 :'(

So all the tankers , Heinke. Fans should be happy .....making the Celtics, worse and helping your enemies .

Do you really believe that Danny's tanking theory was to Trade Tayshaun prince for marginal role players? If Danny wanted to tank he would not have traded for Isaiah Thomas and he would have done more than just move Prince. Do you remember when Prince first came aboard and there were reports that he and ainge were "discussing his future"?

Isnt it entirely possible that it was agreed to during these discussions that Prince would be moved at the deadline?

Now I loved Tayshaun in his time with us but he averaged 8 points in 22 minutes. He is no Lebron James. granted his primary contribution was as a veteran leader/mentor but G Wallace and Brandon Bass are still here to provide at least a semblance of that leadership.

TP

This trade had nothing to do with the players acquired.

That is pure proof of NO tank.

Thing is if you read my posts I get the trade.  But I agree it's kind of a tank job.  Maybe Detroit is in better position than us getting Reggie Jackson and wants to make a run at the playoffs over us.  It's good business sense. We are consolidating trade exceptions to maybe make a splash with all the picks we have.  It makes sense.  I have no issue with it overly.  But people expectin ghte players we got to be anything other than Jerebko being another scalabrine wannabe are kind of kidding themselves. These trade exceptions might not amoutn to anything either but give us options.  Prince really had no purpose here except being a vet to supplant James Young and possibly make a run at the playoffs. Just strange Sully subsequently goes down. Ainge wanted Isiaih thomas imo and wanted to make a move that could help us without hurting our draft position and direction of hte team.  I think this deal kind of coincides with the Thomas trade in that regard.

The Thomas trade made us better in the present. This one made us worse but gave us options long term.  Both trades ultimately fit that same mold and make us better long term and go kind of together.

We were trading T. Prince.  I think ainge did well considering.

Cant believe anyone would be upset about this trade. TPE, gives time to Young, and opens up a possibility for Jerebko with Sully down too.

Jerebko was a good part of detroits run without Josh Smith... he is EVERY bit a better fit for this roster than Prince.

Bulpett is reporting that the Celtics may waive or buy out Gigi Datome.  So much for the stories about Ainge being a big fan of is.  Maybe the NBA was just too much of a leap for him from the Italian league.

Hope that you guys are wrong. Gonna need all hands on deck with Sully out (maybe for the rest of the year), and no harm letting Gigi play and see if we have anything.

Gigi is a 6'8" small forward so he doesnt really help out in terms of replacing Sully's production. Waiving/buying him out would open up a roster spot for a big man, as several big men will be bought out in the next few days. Thomas Robinson comes to mind.

Sully needs to get himself in better shape for the long haul. Now is a good time for him to rest a bit and do that.   Play Bass and Jerebko I guess.

It's all about the long term......  Sully is still learning and needs to learn how to last through an entire season.

Having Bass and Jerebko isn't a bad thing for that reason.  Maybe the celtics knew Sully was hitting a wall. AB did that his first couple years too.  It's different the nba going from college.  So maybe that had something to do with it as well.

Ainge hung onto Bass and talked about an extension which is itneresting.

I'm not against the trade more just made this post to get to the details of why it was made.

I think this team just more isn't ready yet and is still developing in ways.  Finding what pieces fit etc.

I guess the Knicks are worse than the Chinese league because Jerebko looked great tonight.  He's a good fit for this team with his ability to hit the 3.

Danny deserves credit for dealing old man Prince for a half season tryout of 2 players who may actually be valuable in the future.

What? You are personally insulted by this trade?
It is a thumb in the nose?

1) How good to you think Prince is? Do you think he made any large bit of difference in how this team plays? Seriously.

2) Are you aware he was about to demand a buyout? So, by trading Prince they avoid that.

3) Your talent evaluation seems to be off-course and lacking. I'll apply your positive analysis of Prince to the players returned.

4) Again, you think Prince was the key component to winning and losing. That is insane.

p.s. Sam Hinkie is a G.M. not a bottle of beer.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)
