Simmons joked that Thomas would be the next Tiny Archibald.  Tiny Archibald was 4 inches taller than Thomas.   Thomas is in the Earl Boykins, Nate Robinson, Spud Webb, Muggsy Bogues gimmick mini-guard category. Those guys never last as starters, but they are a lot of fun to root for.

Thomas is small.  But he can create offense and score.  Apparently DA wanted to give Brad Stevens another guy who could finish a possession.  As far as defense, we already have Smart and Bradley who are two of the top perimeter defenders in the NBA, so they can help cover for IT's lack of defensive ability.

If IT buys in, he is a good value because his contract is relatively cheap by NBA standards for a 6th man/rotation guard who can provide scoring.

44.5% career FG 36.5% career 3P and 86% career FT point to a good overall shooter.

I think Thomas is more effective than any of the names you listed.  I think some important things to keep in mind are his effectiveness at penetration and getting to the line.  Most players have flaws but i think his size isn't as enormous and issue as we are making it. He's also 35lbs heavier than Tiny was.

Interesting Numbers Comparison.....
Kyrie Irving
.430   .358   .861  3.6   6.1   20.8
Isaiah Thomas
.453   .349   .850   2.9   6.3   20.3

My concern

Is will Danny ever get a center and quit screwing around with 6 ft tall guards.

You have nothing with out big men in the paint .

KO is not a center in any way ...he has zero center instinct or skills ...he plays like a guard

Danny is killing the Celtics with out any starting quality centers .....unbelievable for the Celtics to be so low on talent.

Yeah because 7 foot defensive centers just are falling out of the sky in this league. There is such a lack of bigs in this league that people on CB are drooling over Sanders, who had a good season, got payed and now doesn't know if he wants to play ball anymore. And there are also people hoping the Sixers waive McGee, the President of Shaq'N a Fool.

We are low on talent because we are in year two of the rebuild. We just got rid of the last of the championship team a couple months ago, and Green shortly after. Now it's setting a tone for the franchise, and having young, hungry, unproven players helps establish that with a young coach, you don't have vets set in their old ways thinking they know better and showing up the coach you hired to be the future.

It's a 3 to 5 year build, buckle up!

Should he be grouped with guys like Boykins and Bogues, or with 5'10" guys like Avery Johnson (637 GS in 1054 G) or Damon Stoudemire (793 GS in 878 G)?

IT

Is basically a fancier version on Pressey that can actually shoot the ball .

Question ....does this not like axe Pressey .......Pressey loses his role as water bug energy guy .

IT brings energy and motion to the offense no doubt .
IT is not much like Pressey on offense. Pressey is incredibly limited on offense and should not be compared to an elite score, even if they are both short.

I don't know... he's tied for the 13th shortest player in NBA history, but in his defense he's the shortest player ever to participate in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge... so he's got that going for him.

I feel like this was a small steal for us considering Thomas contract is of good value

We may be able to flip him in the future for another draft pick that is higher

Clevelands draft pick will probably be in the bottom 5 ,if there team is still intact

He's also, as of today, the best offensive basketball player on the Boston Celtics. And it's not even close.

Dude averaged 20 ppg. That's sick.

The 5-foot-9 Thomas has potential to give Boston's offense a big-time jolt. In his final season with Sacramento during the 2013-14 campaign, Thomas averaged 20.3 points and 6.3 assists over 34.7 minutes per game. Despite playing only 25.7 minutes per game this season in Phoenix's overstocked backcourt, he still averaged 15.2 points on four fewer shots per game and his 3-point percentage climbed to a career-best 39.1 percent.

Can't nitpick attributes of best player on our team now. He needs to start, and if we are fortunate enough to strike gold again, a la the big 3 (I'd bet my life it won't happen), he would still be a great piece off the bench.

I'm concerned because a lot of people are calling him Isiah Thomas. He's not that good, people. Let's not set him up to fail.
