Phoenix traded Isaiah Thomas to Celtics for Thornton and a 2016 1st round (cle)

IT's contract seems like very good value considering his performance the last couple years.
so why is phoenix trading him for such a little return? why didn't sacto keep him?

i haven't watched IT a ton, but he reminds me a little of nate robinson, jason terry, or maybe like a more athletic phil pressey who can actually shoot.

hopefully he ends up more on the terry end of the spectrum than the nate rob end.

After briefly skimming a few pages of this thread it seems like everyone is happy with the deal.

Kind of surprised that one of the usual suspects didn't infect this thread with AIDS by whining that Ainge should have tried to move Bradley in the deal instead of Thornton.

Hurts our cap a little, but it's fine.  Thomas is a nice buy-low option.  Problem is, nobody ever takes midget point guards seriously.  The assumption is always that anyone that size can't be an effective defender and isn't an serious starting option.

If we're basing his performance in SacTo when he gets the ball, he's a very good offensive player. He can do that here. I wonder if we keep him or do we let him show what he has and then move him in the draft to move up or get another player?

You don't think the potential of having only roughly $20 million tied up in a solid 3 guard rotation 2.5 years from now impressive?  None of these guys are the second coming of CP3 but none of these guys suck either.

With the projected cap bumps, this is pretty solid stuff even if these guys just develop along the lines of reality.   Danny swung a trade that brought in a solid guard talent AND keeps the team full of draft assets & financial flexibility going forward.   

They continue to set themselves up well.   However, they still need to cash in on hit on things but this continues things heading in the right direction, IMO.

Love Isaiah Thomas, but wouldn't have given up a #1 pick for him. Would've given Philly's 2 high 2nd's, but I think a #1 (albeit a likely 20s pick) is a bit too much.

how is that too much we got a bunch of picks and that pick will be in the 20s..thomas avg 15 3 3 and per 36 is 21 5 3 with a 19 PER..and we still have countless picks..this is a good trade send bradley to the bench

Excellent value. Even if we were a contender with a solid four man guard rotation, which we are not, I still would have made this deal because of the value of the acquired asset versus the little that we gave up for him. He is both an excellent player and/or future asset in a major deal.

It's a ways off, but I'd rather have the Mavs '16 1st than McLemore. He's cooled down from his hot start shooting wise. We'll see how he turns out and where this Mavs pick actually ends up( and resulting Wolves pick(s) from Wright trade).

In a way, all we need is one of Smart and Young to end up really good. You have a lot of mix and match options with these four guys.
