I understand the tendency to want Danny to do something exciting.  The team right now is deeply lacking in players that are exciting to watch in the present, and there isn't even that much in the way of players that excite you with their incredible potential.

We've got a hard working group of role players, some of them young, some of them not so young.  Ho hum.

On top of that, we can't even hang our hopes on the draft, because it looks like the team is going to be drafting somewhere in the 9-15 range.  Yippee.

This is the time when we have to remind ourselves that rebuilding is a slow, methodical process.  It requires patience.  Good things will come.  But we can't expect them to come right now this instant just because we want the team to be competitive and exciting again.

I don't think Bass has any trade value at all, or else he would've been dumped.

Teams just aren't interested in giving up any assets to get an undersized PF who can't protect the rim, rebound all that well, or shoot the three.  Bass is a productive, hard working veteran who can give a team quality minutes, but I think other teams are content to wait and see if he gets bought out. 

If he doesn't get bought out, nobody is going to feel like they missed a chance at a championship because they didn't shell out a pick for a 6'8'' midrange specialist.

If 3 PM rolls around and the Celtics haven't made a trade I'll be very disappointed. Right now we are in a place of mediocrity which is the worst place to be in for a rebuilding team. We aren't bad enough to get a high lottery pick and we aren't good enough to slip into the playoffs as an 8-seed.

Danny either needs to trade some of the vets (Thornton, Prince, and Bass) for second rounders to make us worse, or trade some of our assets for a piece that may help us make a playoff push.

Even a simple move like trading a couple second rounders for Mo Harkless would help. The Magic reportedly have gotten minimal interest from other teams in acquiring him so he could probably be had for cheap if the Magic really want to get rid of him. He's only 21 and his development has been stifled due to Aaron Gordon. Definitely worth a second rounder or two in my opinion.

Here's a thought so that you don't feel so disappointed: Ainge made his moves *before* the trade deadline. All the other GMs are playing catch up, at this point.

Yeah I was half joking but you can't tell me there isnt one team who would offer a second round pick for him. And trading him would probably mean 1-2 more losses for us which could mean we could pick one spot higher in this years draft

Also who cares if it adds salary? Do we plan on signing some Luol Dengs of the world and being a fringe playoff team or do we plan on tanking some more the next 2 years. I would hope the latter. We buy our time and wait to jump when the situation is right and load up.

Yeah, if we were sitting here today and Rondo and Green were still on the team, I would share in that frustration.  But Ainge has been very pro-active in reshaping this team.  There's no other team in the league with a larger treasure trove of picks.

Now, it hasn't resulted in the tankeriffic results we might have expected, but that's not Ainge's fault.  If anything it points to the fact that Rondo and Green weren't good enough to make much of a difference in this team's winning percentage.


Of course, having a lot of picks is not the same as having valuable assets.  Other teams have more valuable assets by virtue of having young players that are actually valued highly around the league.  There isn't a player on the Celtics right now that I would expect any other team to covet all that much.  Some interesting guys, sure.  But nobody to get super excited about.

Whoops mea culpa on the money this year, but still why would we make this deal? Why do we want to pay Haslem anything next year? I think we can make better use of the money, even if it is only 2.7 mil.
