ESPN sources say Celtics emerging as contender on the outside for Goran Dragic in trade with Phoenix.

Celtics have the assets to jump into Dragic talks and, like Houston and Sacramento, also have the guts to trade for a free agent-to-be.

Don't forget Celtics prez Danny Ainge and Suns GM Ryan McDonough have strong working relationship and have already done a deal this season.
Per Stein.

Talk about opportunistic. Would be yet another steal.

Far better than IT

This is a weird time in the NBA.  Players demanding trades has reached such a point that the league actually changed the rules to make it harder, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I see this as the downside of David Stern's emphasis on individual stars over teams.  He promoted guys like their own brands and now that's how even mid-level stars like Dragic and done-nothing youngsters like Monroe are now acting.

Mike
Players have always done this. Its been done since Red was around, there just wasn't media coverage of it or such short contracts.

I don't see how it makes sense to trade for Dragic, not unless he costs almost nothing.

I think this is leaking to try and drive up the price that other teams are willing to pay.

Ainge wouldn't be afraid to make a deal for him---even if he decides to leave---C's can do a S&T with him...Let's see if Danny actually wants this guy.

That'd be dumb.  If he really wants to go to LA or NY, he'll just sign there with the cap room either team has.  No sign-and-trade will be made.  Now, if Dragic is interested in Boston, that's another thing, but no way Ainge trades for him without that.

It should be noted, Dragic has the same agent as Rondo.  Don't know how much it matters, other than Ainge is very familiar with him.

The way Ainge treats agents & in this case Rondo, I think it always matters. He's got a fantastic rep within agents & players. He just sent Rondo to a winner.

It makes sense to trade for any good player. Teams don't just give them away. When they do, you jump on it.

Contrary to others I think the C's should go after Dragic for the point of doing a sign and trade this summer. No real reason to add a 29 year old to this team, but teams always gain from sign and trades.

Dragic is an upgrade - over what we have now, and over what we had in Rondo.

This is a deal we have the assets to make, and we should make. Find out where Dragic is on playing here long-term, and go to work, Ainge.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."
