Trade Idea: Olynyk for Thaddeus Young

I've been reading that Young is on the block and feel he could bring ALOT more athleticism to our team than Olynyk.

Is this a move either team would make?

I think Minnesota would make that deal in a heartbeat considering they're likely to lose Young to free agency this offseason if they don't trade him before then.  That said, I think it'd be a terrible idea for the Celtics in their current state.  Young isn't good enough to elevate this team beyond subpar, as his time in Philadelphia last season and Minnesota this season should suggest.

Don't think so. Young's been dangled for a while. I heard KO's name more than Sully's during the Lovefest.

As much as I don't see Kelly's upside, why would we give him away for a guy that will be a FA. and most likely leave.

Young is pure mediocre and he's actually not that young.  If that's what we wanted we'd have been better off just keeping Green...

We wouldn't do it. Zach Lowe was actually talking about how valuable Olynyk is to the Cs. He went on to say that Olynyk is one of the few pieces they see being on the team longterm.

I am not saying Young is anything special because he's not but I don't see what everyone sees in Olynyk. I really, really don't.

He's unaggressive, looks lost at all times, isn't very coordinated, and looks like a goofball.

Thad Young is a tremendously underrated player, but that dude deserves to go to a good team for once.

I would wait a year or two before trading away Kelly


Unless there is a potential blockbuster trade


I like his game a lot. He keeps the flow going. Brilliant player who just needs to assert himself. Don't know if that'll happen though

It's not about Olynyk being some great prospect, it's just a pointless trade.  Much like Jeff Green, Young's an asset on a good team and a non-factor on a bad team.  The Celtics, regardless of how close they are to the eighth seed, are a bad team.  With the player option Young possesses for next season, you'd be trading Olynyk to rent a guy for 31 games for a lottery-bound team.  What's the purpose?  If you're going to trade Olynyk, at least do so for a sensible return.

Now is not the time to trade our young players for middling veterans who are in the prime of their careers.

Two big men lineups have produced a positive differential this year. Olynyk/Sullinger and Olynyk/Bass, the team produces better with Olynyk in the lineup. Even if he isn't scoring he is spacing the floor and making it easier for teammates to score, that provides a value that is hard to see unless you look for it.

In terms of talent its not a bad deal. As a young vet Thad Young is at a production level that will prob match KOs ceiling. I dont think the Cs are at a point where they should trade any young pieces for a player who isn't a key building block. I also question the long term fit of Young. Is he a replacement for Sully or a new starting 3?

Not a fan of the deal
