Sam Smith just makes things up.  He, Peter May, and Peter Vecsey all did it / do it, and have all the credibility of Celtics Thug.

I mean, give the guy a break, he's still broken up over his significant other cheating on him -- he's got a song on the radio that's playing all the time about it.

He makes up these rumors because he just wants you to STAYYYY WITHH HIMMM.  'CAUSE YOU'RE ALLL HEEE NEEEEDDS.

FWIW, it makes a little too much sense to hear that we asked about one of Karl's favorite Nuggets (Lawson), and then for this to drop.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Given that he's basically just rumoring a rumor, I don't think making things up even factors in.  It doesn't even rise to the level of an "anonymous source says" report; if he heard one person mention something vaguely along those lines in any context, then poof - accurate reporting.

Maybe technically accurate -- kind of like Sherrod Blakely, with all of his "the Celtics could be..." junk -- but worth reporting?

It's the Internet, everything's worth reporting!  :)

Yeah, very solid point.

Although I'd love, love, love to see Lawson and Cousins on the same team.

Still, if the Celtics got Cousins by flipping Lawson and took on, say, Ramon Sessions, I could live with that.

From the perspective of a sports "reporter" who likes to make things up, the idea makes a little too much sense to not float as a rumor.

Recent BS Report with Bill Simmons, Bill was interviewing Cousins. They talked a little about his scuffle with Marcus Smart and Simmons semi-joked that he thought Cousins would really enjoy playing with Smart.

In a moment of total self awareness and without missing a beat, Cousins responds, "oh is he coming to Sacramento?". I thought it was pretty funny the way it came off. Cousins was either very aware of Simmons' recent trade idea or he is aware of some general Boston speculation to respond like that, imo.

To be fair Tom Petty made up more or less the same rumor first about Wes Unseld.

As they should.

I give up anything not named Smart to get him.

I would give up 11 Marcus Smarts for  half of a Demarcus Cousins.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
3 way trade for Lawson to Kings, and we give them picks, plus Sully or KO. Kings can trade Collison to the Pacers.

With George Karl coming on board, there is no way Cousins gets traded now. Karl is not coming to to Kings to rebuild.

No, give Cousins time he'll get on Karl's nerves by the end of the season. Wait until the draft starts to heat up, then make a move, if you want.

In order for this to be anything beyond clickbait, we have to believe that the sequence of events went something like this:

1. Kings fire coach, a move widely regarded as disastrous because it alienated their MVP-caliber center.

2. Kings search for and hire new coach without thinking about impact on MVP-caliber center.

3. Despite the fact that the new coach has some 25 years of experience with a particular style of play, Kings come to the realization only after hiring him that his style of play is incompatible with the MVP-caliber center.

4. Kings decide to solve the problem trading their MVP-caliber center.

Yeah I won't say that it's impossible that they trade Cousins, because crazier things have always happened in the NBA, but it's extraordinarily unlikely.  Even this offseason is incredibly unlikely.  They're going to give this coach reboot a chance.
