I also notice it says "discussed" as in past tense.

I like Ty Law, but what would that make of Smart? Ty is a legit started for a good team. Would starting both of them work?

If it does, might as well offer the minimum to Amar'e and see if we can grab Larry Sanders for cheap if he does get bought out. I think that team can definitely make 8th seed haha

Ty Law
Smart
Turner
Sully
Amar'e or Larry Sanders

not the best of teams but if we want to make playoffs, this team will do it, will it contend for a championship? probably not

The Celtics have a million draft picks and are reportedly not even considering throwing Smart into a potential deal.  Knowing that, I think it's beyond ridiculous to get up in arms about the prospect of trading away a first rounder for Lawson.  The draft picks were accumulated for a reason.  If you think Lawson is worth trading for, but you're not willing to give up a first rounder for him -- a solid point guard with a fair contract that runs until 2017... I just don't know what to say.  You get to acquire a consistent, above-average point guard whose game shouldn't suffer as he ages with an entirely reasonable contract that he'll be under for another two seasons... and that's not worth a first rounder?  It doesn't make sense to me.  You're basically saying no one short of LeBron, KD, or Davis is worth trading away a first rounder.

... which is cool, if that's your prerogative, but your average first round draftee hopes to have a ceiling of being as good as Lawson and often turns out to be considerably worse.

I feel like people romanticize first rounders to a silly degree.

I have no problem bringing in another point and moving Smart to the 2 however I would go with Dragic over Lawson.. From "reports" he could be had for a 1st or even two 1sts protected would be worth it..

If only he resigns after opting out next year. I think he'd bolt myself for similar money from a contender.

I don't get this one.  Lawson is a fine player on a reasonable contract but he doesn't seem to be what the Celtics should be going for.  I guess if you look at him as an asset that we could trade next year for something even better, OK, but I don't see the value in having Lawson as part of our future (partly because we have Smart).

I understand that we have 1st RND picks like CLE's and DAL's that could make sense for Lawson but I am surprised that Denver would want to give him up.  What is their plan at PG if they trade Lawson?  They were so thin at PG that they had to got out and get Nelson.  It makes no sense.

Maybe Ainge wants to trade for Lawson now and flip him to Sacramento in a trade for Cousins in the offseason. Worst case scenario we get a good point guard in Lawson. Best case scenario we get a franchise center in Cousins. I would trade the 2015 LA Clippers first round pick and the 2 Philadelphia second round picks for Lawson. I wouldn't trade Bradley, I'd include Thornton instead.

Keep in mind that Denver's not exactly in any rush to get rid of Lawson, so this implied idea that any team trading for Lawson is doing them a favor and thus gets to lowball them with offers isn't particularly realistic.  I'm sure the Celtics wouldn't mind trading a late first rounder, some second rounders, and an expiring for Lawson.  Good luck convincing Denver that's a worthwhile return, though.

I forgot we have the Cleveland pick too. We could include that. 2 middle to late first round picks and 2 high second round picks seems fair.

Could be, but I imagine that they'd want some players back.

I think so if Denver would rather not take back any players. But we have expiring a that could fit so I think we'd rather save the Rondo TE.

Great take.

A lot of things get over-romanticized here, actually.

I see Smart as a perfect fit for the 2, including his ball-handling and offensive skills, and his ability to lock down scorers at the 2. Lawson and Smart would be an outstanding long-term back court.
