What would a max deal be for a guy that is been in the league for 10-12 years?  About 30-35 mill a year?

It could also work against us.  It means many more teams with cap space to bid against.    We may have to continue to be patient with smart drafting and trading.

I'm not sure yet if I'll like this drastic increase in the salary cap.

90 million?  According to hoops hype, we'll only have 8.2 million under contract for 2016.  Talk about cap space (and yes I know that doesn't include future draft picks and other deals).

interesting question. to the advantage of the celtics, anyone signed to a max contract next year would be a bargain going into the new salary landscape.

however, if i were a free agent next year, i would be very hesitant to sign a long term contract knowing that in 2016 i could strike it rich.

i am not sure how this will work out, but i think next year we might see over pays for good players and one year contracts for the stars.

Hmmm, trying to figure out if this helps the Celtics in any way.  I think that the celtics have to hope for a disgruntled player situation ala k. Love.  Otherwise teams have a boatload of money to sign their own stars.  RFA situations such as butler and Draymond green are no big deal to match other team's offers.

Virtually every team will have a large amount of cap space in 2016.  Accordingly, it's pretty important to get at least one big free sent this summer, when the Celtics don't have to compete with every team for those players.  The Celtics will have the ability to sign two max free agents outright this summer if they can convince two to join.  Getting two will also make the C's a more attractive destination for another big free agent in 2016.

Also, there could be another sizable jump in 2017's salary cap if the players opt out and are able to successfully negotiate an increase in the revenue split.  In the prior CBA, 51% of the BRI went to the salary cap.  Now it's 44.7%.  If they increased it to 47%, a cap of about $100 million wouldn't be surprising at all for 2017.

This increase is two years out, not one, so when Durant and LeBron (and Anthony Davis and Damien Lillard) will be free agents, and not this summer.  That said, it's why the Warriors are willing to hit the luxury tax for a year to keep Green, because it will really be just a one year thing.

and yet another good point is raised. how will this new cap affect the value of draft picks? my guess it makes the picks more valuable since drafted players are in a way "minimum wage" players. a cheap and easy way to fill rosters with credible talent and the cost is controlled up to 4 years.

if this is how draft picks are viewed, then their value goes up. if their value goes up, teams are less likely to trade them since they are scarce each and every year (there are only 30 first round picks each year folks.)

given the celtics situation (a plethora of valuable draft picks) the outcome may be mixed. mixed in that trading up to the top 5 may become more difficult. since the value of such picks is so high....potential great talent that is cost controlled for years.

but, since the value of mid to late first rounders is also rising, danny may be in a better position to trade for actual factual star players.

all of this is just off the top of my head on a saturday morning, but worth more discussion here. i would be interested in seeing the opinions of other posters on this.
