I don't know of DWill is a great comparison. They have pretty different skillsets, I don't recall watching DWill as a rookie but I imagine he was already showing better handles and shake than Smart. He may be less of a leaper but I think he's quicker, better at juking his man and getting in the paint. Smart so far has shown almost no ability to beat his man off the dribble and get in the paint, which has surprised me and many people. Maybe he'll turn it around, maybe he won't. Even if he doesn't, his D is awesome and his shooting is better than advertised, so he'll be a really valuable player even if he never becomes great at creating offense himself.

Smart may well be one of those point gaurds that needs a year or 2 and then busts out. One thing he could work on is his body fat %, which was almost 11%.

More like Tony Allen. Deal with it.

I don't know, Tony use to go to the basket like a man possessed. I remember the weeks prior to his first knee injury. I thought we had found something really special.

Marcus has better PG skills than TA, and will be just as good of a defender. (Which is saying a mouth full) He is a better shooter too, but if he doesn't improve his ball handling, and get into the paint on a regular basis, to dish to the open man, post up, or go to the basket... it's a no go.

I don't think Tony Allen is a bad outcome given that he is a DPOY candidate almost each year and was a pretty good scorer prior to injuries and move to Memphis. That being said, I think Smart's ceiling is WAY higher offensively. He has NEVER passed 2 assists per game...

His career per 36 passing is 2.3 Ast, and 26% 3pt%. Smart is already passing double the assists and shooting much better while rebounding, stealing and scoring at about the same level....

So you are saying - Smart will REGRESS in shooting and passing as he develops as a player.... and this is based on what ??????

Tony Allen is not a good comparison for Smart.  I see Smart as a shorter, but better shooting version of Shaun Livingston before the knee injuries.

He's a guard based on points inside the 3pt line and tenacious defense.  Before anyone gets offended by this, Livingston was on his way to a great career before injuries and played for a horrible Clippers team.
