Tommy doesn't hit the road with Mike Gorman anymore, and, inevitably, it'll be a full retirement sooner rather than later.

Who replaces him? Scal? or (my choice) Max? Or someone out of left field?

Scal's getting to be an OK broadcaster, is currently the designated road color guy. However, Max has been doing it a lot longer, on radio and the tube, and has a lot more team gravitas, having been a Finals MVP - and on a Bird team, no less.

I'd be ok with either Scal or Max.  Max is growing on me and Scal has been solid.  neither one makes me think they HAVE to be the guy with Gorman after Tommy leaves.

It's gonna be a real sad day when Gorman retires.  He's the man.  Just so professional and has a great voice.   He's from that old school "Pat Summerall" style of broadcasting where you just call the action, set up your analyst, then reel things back in.    You don't see many play by play guys in any sports these days that still take that approach.

When that day comes, I hope they slide Grande to television.

Agreed. Would be fine to see Scal takeover for Tommy when the time comes. Not a fan of Maxwell.

Also Gorman's the best in the business at being subtly sardonic while still being a genuine fan of the franchise (we saw innumerable examples of this last year), which is part of the reason he's my favorite commentator ever.

Max has a habit of putting his foot in mouth, but basically I'm fine with either.

Yeah, I don't see Scal as a long-term guy. Grande desperately needs Max's grounding to balance Grande's preening. I'm not sure they have their long-term Tommy replacement yet.

Mike IMO is the absolutely very best in the business, and I hope he doesn't retire for another decade.

Agree 100% on all the support Gorman's getting ITT, he's tops in my book.

As some folks have pointed out, Scal approaches his gig like a coach, and perhaps that's where he's headed. I think he's pretty good, though I hope there's some speech and enunciation lessons in his future if he chooses to continue in broadcasting.

But Max has been a pro a lot longer, and I think he's earned the shot if he wants it.
