Way way off. He's more like Deron Williams than Wade.

I don't hate NBA Draftnet like some, but they seem to get carried away with some ideas. Remember when every single mock draft had Aaron Gordon in the top 10, but NBA Draftnet had him like 25th? They stubbornly stuck with Gordon not being in the top 10 almost until the end IIRC.

Doesn't have the pure pg skills of a Deron Williams.  Smart is already a better defender than Williams ever was.

Draftexpress article had Smart compared to Jarrett Jack.  BR website had best case scenario James Harden and worse case Jarrett Jack.

Not sure about these comparisons either. Maybe you have to go back to the earlier days to find a comparable player

The way Smart plays defense reminds me of Bruce Bowen. In your face until your miss or make your bucket. You have to work for your points

Not as dirty but tenacious, non stop energy, physical and willing to guard anyone

I don't really have any clear memories of Dennis Johnson, but I know he had the reputation of being a terrific defender, okay shooter, and while he was a PG he wasn't really the drive and dish type. Of course, he really didn't have to be with Bird around, but DJ was just an all around good basketball player. Like I said, I'm mostly going off of old highlights and others observations who've compared him to DJ.

Amazing defense. Boxout on 6'9 Hickson at the end

How about The Glove?

Payton's career averages were 16.8 ppg, 6.7apg and 1.8 spg.

One can only hope.

Maybe. But Wade was able to play above the rim in his prime.

I think Smart might be closer to Harden. If he's able to get there. He has to keep working on that euro step. And also using his body when driving.

He has the potential, which is nice since we are starting to see the ceiling on players like Bradley and Sullinger.

maybe closer. But Harden is quicker than Smart.  Better ball handler

I see Smart as a Lowry/Baron Davis type of player. Baron would have been a beast if not for the injuries.

Probably more of a natural shooter too.

I like the Gary Payton comparison myself. I feel that people get caught up with body type and physique when trying to make player comparisons. Payton has a different body but plays very much like Smart, IMO. Baron Davis without the injuries also seems accurate.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I'd love to see him get to the level of Payton, but if he develops into a decent 3pt shooter my realistic guess would be close to Nick Anderson (which is a very good player). Payton would be awesome though and I hope he does reach that level.

i think he is a completely different player from what we have seen so far

he is a big physical defensive minded PG

he is feisty like gary payton but he is less developed offensively and seems much stronger

he kind of reminds me of eric bledsoe when he has it going defensively

with regards to the draft net comparison, i think they compare him with wade how they both drive it to the rim, draw contact, and dont rely on their midrange jumper

however they differ in that defensively wade is a better shot blocker while smart is more of stealing guard. Also wade has a more variety of moves offensively and is much faster. But smart is stronger and more locked in defensively.

also i usually rely on draftexpress for comparisons and mock drafts because they seem more accurate compared to nbadraftnet.
i still remember the time they once compare deshawn stevenson to michael jordan.
