Taj Gibson on trading block

The Sporting News reports that Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson has been involved in considerable trade talks.

Gibson's name has been connected to much of the league over the last few months, from Los Angeles to Toronto to Phoenix to Detroit to Portland. In recent weeks, he has not played with the type of energy for which he has been known, and there has been speculation that he is frustrated with the addition of Nikola Mirotic and Pau Gasol though his playing time has not changed much. Gibson still has two years and $17.4 million on his deal, which is a problem in moving him.

Could he help our defense? I have always thought he looked good when he got more minutes. I agree we are probably the last place he would end up. I do think he would be a significant upgrade over Bass in a change of scenery type trade

I don't think he's a material improvement over any of our big men, and he's 29. Even with extended minutes he's pretty much Sullinger with slightly better shotblocking.

Good player , too old for a rebuilding club and not a WISE old owl like Prince.

Bulls making room to offer Butler the MAX contract it will take to keep him off the Lakers  or Mavs when they let Rondo go.

I'm pretty sure the gulf between them on the non-shotblocking aspects of defense is wider than Sullinger's waistline.  He might be a better fit for the style of team the Celtics seem to be building.

If they're really looking for offseason cap room, I'd move Prince or Bass + a 2nd rounder for him in a heartbeat. He's a very good player for $8M / year and a plus defender.

Yeah, it'd be a logjam, but we're still collecting assets, so if the price is right...

They have a logjam at PF with Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson and Nikola Mirotic. Pau and Taj are starting caliber players and Mirotic is well on his way to becoming one over next year or two. All three guys need regular rotation minutes. Someone has to go.

Whether it is now or next summer; someone will need to go.

I like the idea of Chicago trading Taj Gibson. Pau Gasol is main cog in their offense and Mirotic their best young prospect. Taj Gibson odd man out. They badly need a 2nd starting caliber wing to put alongside Jimmy Butler and one who can shoot the 3 ball at a high level. Trading Taj Gibson to fill that hole would be a good move for Chicago.

Well, in theory anyway ... frankly, It's hard to see a trade that works for Chicago. A team that needs a starting PF and would be willing to give up a starting SG/SF who can shoot the ball at a high clip.

I could easily see the celtics involved as a 3rd team in a Gibson deal.

The Bulls are not going to want a long term salary back in exchange for Gibson but also dont want their team to take a step back.

Maybe something like this makes sense, with the Raptors sending a protected 1st to the bulls and a 2nd to the Cs.

A similar deal could be made with a number of teams built around the Bulls getting a 1st from the raptors and their choice of Thorton, Prince of Bass from the Cs. Prince seems like the best fit for Thibs system but Thorton may actually give the Bulls the perimeter offense they need off the bench.

Thorton is not going to land the Cs a first let alone a first and Taj Gibson.

Seems kind of pointless to acquire him, if we are tanking he helps us win, if we are going for playoffs, I do not see him winning us a series.

un related to Gibson being traded, I actually think the role Gibson has been playing for the bulls would ultimately be T Zellers ideal role. First big off the bench as a high usage sub giving efficient offense, some rim protection and hustle.
