Under CBS which players have taken their game to another level?
I mean sometimes there is so much a coach can do to up a players game but imo he has affected some of our players in a negative way.
KO - Should not be exclusively playing out from the perimeter. Yet BS has told him that is his role moving on fwd. KO is not a sure 3 pt shooter. Good shooter but at times will miss the open 3. Strategy to pull the opposing big man is understandable but KO's game/ expansion suffers. If there was a game KO should be playing like on a consistent basis is when we beat the Bulls. KO was aggressive, decisive, banging the boards and scored most of his points came utilizing the mid range game. KO is a near auto 2 pt mid range shooter
Sullinger - Just has got lazier and softer since Doc has left. Last season he was pulling in 15, 18 rebounds some games. Last season when CBS was kind of lost as a new coach and Sullinger still remembering how to play under CBS/with KG. Now he has turned more into a finesse player. He needs to go back to playing "beast mode"
Smart - Again , just staying out on the perimeter shooting the three. Is not asked to attack the basket. Does not do it enough and might lose the skill he developed in college. In college did things like bounce off bigger guys/absorb contact and finish.
James Young - Needs to be told to shoot the ball. There should be plays run for him to receive passes in the corner to shoot threes non stop. Instead he is like a pilon out there, causing little to no distraction.
ET and Zeller - Not any worse under CBS.
AB and Bass - Are the only 2 I can think of that have benefited from CBS arrival. But also these guys games pretty much were developed before CBS came in. They are just getting more opportunities to contribute on the offensive end
Rondo - CBS and Rondo marriage was kind of a disaster from the beginning. CBS visiting him when he got hired was "sukking up 101" that was unnecessary thing to do. Matter of fact it probably gave Rondo the power to take advantage of CBS inexperience. Look at carlyle now and how he is handling Rondo.
Like another poster has said CBS leans towards too much on the intellect side of things. It's mainly about strategy vs also developing players the right way. Being a bad cop sometimes and being hard on a player. You also rarely see CBS try the same play consistently. Every play on the offensive end is different. It's like he does not want the other team to understand what he is trying to do vs exposing weakness and keep pounding on it until it does not work.
Overall I'm not sure if CBS will stick around after next season. I can see how he was and still will be a great college coach. But for the NBA he is missing the mark on having the right lineup out on the court, substitution pattern, when to call timeouts, understanding to keep utilizing plays that works, being harder on his guys.
CBS imo did one thing great before and that was having the team push the ball suffocating the opposing team. Guys like KO/Zeller were launching balls full court when inbounding the ball etc. Now the team rarely does this. These days it seems like it's all half court ball.
If CBS is let go, I would not mind having Scal as the teams new coach. His analysis/criticisms/solutions during games is spot on.
