Yeah, I have seen conflicting reports about this. Is he a RFA or does Miami have a team option? Obviously for our sake (if we choose to go that route), it would be great if it were the former.

As for money, I would say $12-13 Mil. For his experience in the league, this has to be close to the max amount. If he actually is signed through next year and he performs anywhere near the level he is now, then he will have a line out the door waiting to sign him for as much as they are allowed to.

Agreed, not on the same scale as this, but I liken it to Vitor Faverani's pre season and beginning of the year in 2013. He almost had a triple double his first game ever with 12 pts, 18rb and 6 blocks.  It did not take long for him to come down to earth. I am sure he will come down but obviously not much as Faverani...The Linsanity effect might also apply a little bit here.

Right now LA fans pretty much see Lin as a scrub guard . Most of their fans s considered him average at best these days .   I'd take AB over Lin 6 days a week .


So let's see how he is doing 30 games from now .......and remember Lin had a good long Run for around a year and then unwound on Houston .

When he has played, he has been amazing. The problem is that his minutes still seem to be on the shorter end. If I were Miami, I guess I would hold him out, too - maybe fewer teams will want to spend big money on him this off-season if they see that he is not getting much playing time.

He does seem pretty surefire. I also wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if he was on steroids.

Just kidding! No one in the NBA uses steroids. That bulk just slows you down. It's antithetical to the NBA target physique.

He's not a restricted FA. He is signed through 2016 under a vet minimum deal. This is reported by Heat beat writers Skolnick and Winderman, along with Marc Stein. The sites that are reporting contrary to that are incorrect. In addition, that Heat will have his Bird rights in the summer of 16.

A: The Heat have Whiteside locked into a veteran-minimum, non-guaranteed contract for next season. That's the good part. The concern -- and this is taking a long view -- is that Whiteside could then command the type of salary during the 2016 free-agency free-for-all that would box the Heat out of other possibilities.
