He is a ball thief and forces a lot of turn overs....that impact a game ,  pressuring bigs around the bucket boxing out, rebounding , frustrating bigs trying to handle the ball in the paint....he is every where causing havoc

He impacts the game in many critical areas....which equal the impact of more elite scorer who does little else but shoot

I think his biggest leap in skill will be his ultimate play making and passing .  He can fire a rocket straight pass , and has shown signs of finding the open man in a crowd...his behind the head no look to Zeller ...Bird like stuff

Amazing confidence and pose for a rookie his age . 

Two years and he may be one of the best in the east conference

Too early to tell.  He's just getting his feet wet.

The unique characteristics about Smart are his strength for the position, and his bulldog determination.  He also has above average court vision and sky high BBIQ.  He's also very athletic, has good to above average size for the position.

And he's just getting started.  The encouraging sign is that he can sink his shots from deep.  A slightly below 40% 3P pace is very good for a rookie guard.  His percentages will grow over time as he becomes more comfortable with the game and grows into his role.

All I know is that he is a leader and a winner.  I think the comparisons to Dennis Johnson are warranted.  Smart won't be the 'goto scorer' but he will make a lot of plays we need to win and he is already showing himself to be a leader for our team.  OUr guys take their cue from him, especially defensively.

The numbers aren't too important with me honestly as long as Smart continues to grow into a better and better player.  I think he will become a real terror and possibly get his first All-star appearance by his 3rd year in the league.  He'll probably make 1st team all-nba defense in his second season and make 2nd team all-nba defense as a rookie and possibly make 1st team all-rookie and at worst 2nd team all-rookie this year.

TP,  I second this and think most are underplaying his ability to pass. At this point he is moving the ball and not forcing it. Also he is often sharing the floor with other facilitators like ET.

Once it is his team to run then the assists will hit the stat sheet. He has already shown a great ability to push the pace and advance the ball up the court with his passing. His head stays up and he is always aware on the court.

I think he is showing great maturity to not rush things and is letting himself learn the speed and space in the NBA game.
