So it's a pretty simple straightforward question. I was telling a buddy of mine today that I wouldn't  choose another franchise to have the future picks of even if I could. He said he'd rather have Philly's picks, maybe Minnesota for the next 3 years. One problem with hypothetically choosing Philly is if they were aware their picks were going to us, I'd assume they'd pull out all the stops to immediately improve. The poor Nets are hamstrung.

Anyways, would you rather have another team besides Brooklyn to own the picks of in '16-'17(yeah a swap I know)- and '18?

I would definitely agree they are the team whose picks I would want to own

They can't dump their players because they would get worse (and obviously can't tank for picks) and the players they do have are injury prone and can't really perform up to their salaries

Their future is uncertain, and I like it!   :D

I would rather have the Sixers picks too.  The Nets are probably the second best picks to have.

Yes, I agree with you, and TP for your game theory where you are constructing the more likely counterfactual regarding Philly and their motives. I totally agree with you on Philly.
Celtics fan for life.

Exactly. My universe, my rules! :D

I could see an argument for preferring Charlotte, as they tend to have trouble getting out of their own way. I don't know whether Jefferson will opt out or not, or where he'll go. They actually played better without him and better without Stephenson as well. There's no telling what that team's gonna do.

Picking a team who have/will have a lot of cap space is risky because they would just spend it on free agents to be mediocre if the tanking lure was gone. Also Eastern teams have a much easier schedule and path to the playoffs which can make their picks worse. How about Minnesota and Denver? Both are up against the cap this year and next and have zero shot at being competitive in the West.

The Lakers and the Knicks have the worst talent in the league but they have cap space coming. Even if they don't get the good FAs I can see them overpaying some decent enough players. There was a rumor today that the Knicks will go hard after Tobias Harris who is from the area and loves the Knicks. I have to think the Magic would match just to keep the asset though.

I like Minnesota overall because they're in the West so theres little chance that they make the playoffs any time soon, plus I could taunt Flip Saunders.  6ers could use their cap space to make the playoffs if they really wanted next year, plus they get Embiid, Saric and a top pick for almost no salary cap space.  The Nets are so locked up they're definitely top 3, if they were in the West it would easily make them #1.

The Philly team is stacked with hypothetical young talent.  Embiid, Noel, MCW, Saric, Wroten, Grant, + whoever they draft in the top 3 this year...  If we're talking about 2016... maybe.  But 2018, I wouldn't bet against them at all.

We already potentially own Minny's 1st next year if they can find a way to dig out of the bottom 12.  It's not impossible... Wiggins is legit.  If he follows the path of guys like LeBron/Durant, he's probably not going to make the playoffs until his 3rd year.  But there should be major improvement over the next couple years.

Fair point about Brooklyn.. they have some veteran studs and a potential franchise piece of Brook Lopez if he can stay healthy... but that team is a good one to bet against in the next few years.  They don't get their pick in 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018... Unless they make some creative trades they are either going to be a weak playoff team or a lotto squad.

The Hawks have the right to switch picks with Brooklyn this year.

I know that. I said 16-17(swap)-18. Maybe I worded the first paragraph poorly.

minnesota before nets. the wolves are terrible, terrible franchise at the top. they will be bad for years to come.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

The Nets are pretty awful at the top as well. An owner willing to spend insane amounts of money to win now can be worse than a stingy one. Add in that Billy King seems to be a lousy GM, and well, you have a team that's going to miss the playoffs and pick 28th this year.

The Wolves are young but at least show promise. They figure to be bad again next year but as LarBrd33 stated, let's see how Wiggins progresses. They do have some talented youth though and if Rubio and Pek can stay healthy, maybe they can make the jump to mediocrity next season.

I think Sacto could be in for some lean years if Cousins keeps making noise that he wants out.

Disagree.  Wiggins is legit and the top 3 wolves players have missed, more or less, the whole year.  Flip is doing a monumental tank job.

With Rubio, Pekovic, Wiggins, Martin, and a top 3 pick, this team has WAY more promise than Brooklyn.  Not close.
