There is a lot of excitement that we will have cap space to sign FAs this offseason, but I don't think we should just spend to spend. We don't need another Mark Blount like contract...

Specifically, the only players worth giving big money to this offseason are Butler (Chicago will match), Deandre Jordan (LAC will likely match but this could be a steal), and Leonard of the Spurs (we won't get him).

We should NOT spend a lot of money on Reggie Jackson, Greg Monroe, etc. Those are NOT players that will get us to or even towards contention. I wouldn't even want Jackson for Bradley's contract (though I'd do Monroe for less than 10 mil which will never happen.. but he's a 4 anyways, we don't need that!)

In other words, I think we ought to use our TPE's this year to get young upward trending players / more 1st round picks for absorbing salary dumps (but only on contracts that expire before 2016). In 2016 there will be more guys worth throwing big money at, but I don't like the idea to spend just cuz we can for the first time in forever.

Off topic.. but I wish we got Jordan Adams in the Green trade, and given that we didn't.. I wish we got Bullock for Austin Rivers, as we need young up and comers just like we need picks.

Anyways.. this is just my opinion and just throwing it out there. I expect to be eaten by the wolves on here as so many people seem to want Reggie Jackson and even Monroe at any cost haha. But I'm brave! What are everyone's thoughts?

I would wait till 2016 FA. We need another year of rebuilding through the draft and to see what development our players have made.

I agree with almost everything you've said.  In the land of unrealistic, I would definitely take Reggie Jackson on Avery Bradley's deal, and I think so would OKC.  That would be a young starter caliber point guard locked up for 4 years on a below market deal - to me that's a no brainer.  But we all know that isn't going to happen anyway, so I won't waste anymore words on that.

I definitely think we should wait to preserve the cap space for one more season.  I'd be fine/excited if Danny threw a huge offer at Jimmy Butler and/or Kawhi Leonard, but I agree that their is virtually no chance of us landing those players in the end.  In 2015 FA Danny needs to shop in the bargain aisle once again.  Maybe try to find another Evan Turner type signing, and/or fill the roster with 1 year deals or multi-years with team options beyond current.

Next year will give us a full year to look at how the team progresses with a plethora of young players getting significant minutes for 82 games.  By the end of next season some everyday starters should be well established and hopefully the team has a semblance of an identity.  At that point, I'd consider making a plunge on the right FA's in addition to using the cap space to resign some of our young guys that are eligible.

I don't mind a "high profile non- franchise player" signing say Monroe, Butler, Jordan, Jackson if it's under 14 million. The cap is rising so C's in theory can still sign one heavy hitter and a good role player in 2016. Draft is really the tell all. If C's get a top pick of Towns/Okafor they can probably get Jackson /Butler for help. If they get Mudiay/S.Johnson C's want to get Monroe/Jordan. Again if they are under 14 million makes sense for a team line up check the below.

Jackson, Smart, Young, Sully, Towns/Okafor
Smart, Young, Butler, Sully, Towns/Okafor

Smart, Mudiay, Young, Sully, Jordan/Monroe
Smart, Young, S.Johnson, Sully, Jordan/Monroe

The franchise player FAs  that are to get the max are likely staying with teams. If C's can't sign non franchise players mentioned  to right price they should pass. As a developing team you can not max out non-franchise players.

I hear ya, and agree that Leonard, Butler this year, and James, Love, next year will stay. Durant I think will leave, but to go to the Wizards. But what I'm saying is this offseason I would only give Deandre the big money (as Butler and Leonard will stay). Just cuz we can spend 14 mil for Jackson, doesn't mean we should. I don't think Jackson is proved, at all... and as for Monroe, if we traded Sully for something else then that would make more sense, but otherwise we don't need yet another 4...

"Negotiating with Flip Saunders is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon craps all over the board and knocks over the pieces. Then it struts around like it won the game."

That is pure genius Future Celtics owner (TPs whenever I read your name). Now how can I partner with you to reach your ambitious financial goals.

My feelings on the subject are to sign and trade Bass, Zeller and Thornton combined with Gerald Wallace Salary and TPE's and draft picks to swing for the fences and pick up superstars looking for a fresh start and can quickly develop a rapport with Sully, Olynyk, Smart, Bradley, and Jae Crowder along with Coach Stevens. There will be disappointing drop outs due to parity in the league and impatient owners could make irrational changes. I am taking a look at Sacremento with DeMarcus Cousins. The Clippers could be another curious case now that the Rivers family reunion has happened. I am relying on other solid NBA executives like Chris Wallace (much underappreciated in Boston but he was clearly browbeaten by Ga$ton) and other WC execs to keep their teams competitive and keep the Lakers at bay for at least 10 years.

Ainge is in a good position for a quick reload a la Summer 2007 and this may happen sooner than you think.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

so freaking true! I don't think we should spend unless it's on a Kevin Durant or until we have a star to build around. till that happens only take on expiring deals.

I agree with the OP.. The only name I would spent max money on is Leonard who is a RFA but making offers to Butler and Jordan would be worthwild.. Drummond for 2016 as well

think DA is going with a build younger concept so guys like Gasol, Al Jeff, Thad Young, or Milsap should be off the radar..

The teams assets are still the draft picks which can ultimately grab a nice player depending where they fall in the upcoming years (most likely the Nets picks)..

If you guys don't like Reggie Jackson, D.Jordan or G.Monroe... what about M.Gasol, Big Al or Roy Hibbert ???

Also Asik could be had on the cheap and a Zeller/Asik combo at the 5, with a Sully/Olynyk combo at the 4 could be a nice frontcourt IMO.
