Via @Mark Murphy here's C's latest trade: BOS gets: Randolph, Douglas-Roberts, 2017 2nd round pick PHX gets: Bullock LAC gets: Rivers

The Clippers really gave up two wings, which is their weakest position, for Austin Rivers, whom they don't need at all.

Doc has done poorly as a GM. Did Ainge really just pull the "dad-overpays-for-son" card out?

Im guessing we keep both of these guys for the rest of the year. No threat to complain about needing min to play.

CDR has a decent mid range game

Given that said wings were BOTH out of the Clippers rotation, they haven't really given up that much.

I get that we're clearing as much cap space as possible. But I guess I'm still a little surprised that Ainge would rather have a 2017 2nd round pick than Bullock, even if we'd rather give minutes to Young, Bradley, etc. Must mean he thinks Bullock is a waste of space, and he obviously knows more than i do.

CDR is getting waived.

He's not much of a mid-range player.  His scoring either comes at the hoop or from 3PT range.

I don't think there's any point to keeping either of them, frankly.

He's certainly looked like a waste of space so far.

sure, but why bother waiving them? unless ainge is planning to bring other players on board. do salaries of waived players count towards the cap?

i am sure the dleague offers at least a few players better than cdr and shavlik.

So, what are Randolph and CDR's contract situations? Do they expire at the end of this season?

Yes.

Thanks. TP.

Well, I guess Rivers can now prove all us "Rivers doubters" wrong with another team.

Gotta waive as many bodies as you can because Coach S insists on playing everyone in uniform.

That's one reason right there.

Another: we're a month away from the trade deadline. Might need an open roster spot for a trade.

Most importantly: there's nothing that indicates that either CDR or Shav have a future with the team, if not the league. Better to give minutes to the players who need development.

And yes, waived players count against the cap. But that's of little significance to the current season.

HO HUM!!!

Was this worth the effort? A 2017 2nd rounder? That's like having a dollar in all pennies.

Austin was expiring, so you let him play, see what he's got under Stevens, and let him expire if he's a problem or disaster. Maybe you get more in a S&T this summer given you have his Bird rights.

There is nothing preventing you from waiving a player when a trade is being completed in order to not go above roster limits.
