BREAKING: @BrooklynNets are for sale, 2 sources say. Mikhail Prokhorov hires Evercore to sell the @NBA team. Story posting soon. #sportsbiz

What kind of impact could this have on the Celtics future? Possibly, huge.

Wow.

This is huge for the Celtics.

The Russian economy is tanking. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

The Nets are the second NBA team on the market, joining the Atlanta Hawks, whose ownership group put the team and operating rights to Philips Arena up for sale on Jan. 8.

good timing is going to make the Russian a mint on this deal, despite running his operation in the red throughout the entirety of his stay.

plunder & profit, the new school way to get recklessly rich.

It will effect the Celtics, but I'm not sure we can say how it will.

They'd already made it clear no more crazy spending to win.

I don't think this affects the fate of the Celtics' ownership of their draft pick in 2016 because regardless of the owner they will have limited ways of improving this season and next. After that it's unclear because they, like a million other teams will have oodles of cap space to play with. It seems unlikely anybody will choose their millions over a better team but who knows? Since they don't have their own draft pick for awhile there really is no reason for them to outright tank. They might as well just sign anybody who will play for them, even if it means overpaying for good but not great guys. That might make the team mediocre enough to still end up in the teens for picks.

If the NBA reseeds the playoffs so that the Eastern Conference is forced to compete with the West for spots then all bets are off.

I'm not sure it will make much of a difference.  If they keep attempting to be a good team with this bunch, the Celtics get good draft picks.  If they blow it up and start from scratch the Celtics get good draft picks.  If they can trade some assets for equivalent players it may not be as good for us.

Not going to happen, sportsbloggers can whine all they want.

NBA has 15 owners who would vote against that sort of reorg.

Exactly.  This franchise is in trouble no matter how you slice it.  The only light at the end of the tunnel is that the Celtics might still suck in 2017 and they might get a good pick.

I was wrong, this IS where we should start a Kickstarter.

Lets all buy the Nets.  ;D

On a serious note. How fast do anyone think this team can be sold? I mean, this is New York. Large market.

If new ownership fires Billy King (and new owners often like to clean house), that makes the Nets likely to be better than they would be if they keep King as GM.  So, the Nets being sold probably has a negative effect on the value of the picks owned by the Celtics.

Depends, a new GM might be more aggressive about selling to recoup some draft picks.

Not sure about the long run.....past four years .....half life of a player .prime.

But in the near term next 2-3 years ......I can see turmoil and disruption of the next take over and rebuild unstable and uncertainty not helping the cause.

This turn over period and rebuild  usually makes the team less than a contender. In most cases.

Unless they luck into the next LeBron I don't see them being more than a 20-25 win team.  .....I see Lopez and DWill disappearing which should help make them worse.

KG come off the books will help their lot  tho .
