Please Trade Sully!

Hi All!

Let me start off by saying that I like what Ainge is doing. The Rondo trade was necessary (I loved Rondo but I think he didn't want to be here), and I like the Green deal. I didn't love the Wright deal but it's good enough.

We are definitely in the middle of a true rebuild, but I trust Ainge. I hope I am not met with scorn haha, but I really think we should trade Sully! He is definitely good, but I think our future core includes Smart, Young, and possibly Olynyck and Crowder. I just don't think we should hinge our future at all with Sully due to his consistency and build/being out of shape. I think we should trade him now while he's still cheap with some upside and a year or two left on his rookie deal. Plus PFs are not hard to find, that's a more common position to find something decent unlike SG, SF or C.

Do you guys think we could get anything of value for him? Maybe we trade him for McLemore of the Kings (I apologize if that's unrealistic, I'm not sure) ?

Love Sully, but I would trade him for the right return. I just don't think we'll get better value than him in return right now unless we overpay with firsts plus Smart and Young

I feel he's good in the sense he was a late 1st round pick... but someone has to get stats on a bad team (we are bad, but I like our youth movement), and he doesn't even get great stats consistently! I just am not sure what his trade value is around the league... but I think for the right deal we should pull the trigger.

Sully vs Olynyk.  Yes, we could keep both young players under low salaries. I think it comes down if a trade possibility opens up who would you prefer to keep at the PF position.

They are different types player so depends on the surrounding roster and team style of play.  I believe right now that Sully is a slightly better overall player especially since he can better play both PF and C on our team that is thin a C position.

I believe KO has more potential upside with a 7 footer with handles, stretch 4, and excellent passer.  Both are not very good defenders and would benefit from a rim protecting center If Celts draft or acquire a rim protector and need to include either KO or Sully in a trade I would keep KO since he is more of a good fit with ability to play away from the basket but it is a close call. 

I love Sully's rebounding ability and swag.

His body language has been pretty bad this season. During timeouts he appears very disinterested in what Stevens is saying or drawing up, instead he'll be looking around the arena as though what's being discussed is meaningless.

we ruined this guy, we should move him. past 2 seasons he started out fine and fizzled. why? because his 3 point shooting went south. as soon as that happened the rest of his game suffered.

we never should have encouraged him to be a 3 guy. it's ok to have range, and i'm not saying he shouldn't take 'em or practice them, but it seems the emphasis on being a "stretch 4" has ruined everything that was good about him.

  He was passed on by many teams, other GMs saw the flaws, Gambler Ainge rolled the dice, and  he lost.  He has some skill but woefully unathletic and often over matched every night he plays.   

I love Sully's rebounding ability and swag. 

  Two bad neither helps him play D.  Too bad his swagger kepts him from thinking he needs to get in shape and is already an all star.

I think we will keep him until the end of his rookie contract.   I think he will want more than what he is worth and he will be gone.  I don't see him having any value in a trade, maybe a second rounder if that.

The thing about Sully, is he thinks he is the "man", despite play showing otherwise, he wants to take the hard shot at the end of the game.  Often it is poorly advised and not the best option.

He ought to do well now that NBA has a stat called PIE.  JK.

Maybe you should approach this from the opposite path. Determine his value first and then decide to trade him.

Saying, "let's trade him," and then asking "What is he worth?" is backwards. Why do you want to trade him? He's a cost-effective player and he's still played less than 4,000 minutes in the NBA so he is still in the development phase. Why sell on him now when you still do not know what he becomes especially during the season.

Buyers right now are mainly going to be teams competing and those teams are not going to pay for what Sully might be with further development. They only care about what he can give them over the next 3 months.  The likely result is that Sully's trade value right, now midseason is not what it would be in a year or two.

Now, if someone comes to you with an offer over what you feel he will be if he reaches his upside, then go ahead and deal him. Establish the value first and then decide if you want to trade him.

I just don't think he's a part of the solution. I honestly don't think he's that good, and I can't envision him being on our team when we become contenders again. I agree we shouldn't trade him if there are no good offers, however, I disagree that his value will be higher in a year or two when he has less years (that are a financial bargain) left on his contract.

No reason to trade him now unless some team makes a very good offer. He's played as well as anyone on the team this year. I'm not sure if he's the future either but may as well see what he can develop into at this point IMO.

Not sure what to make of Sully and KO for that matter.  They both have their good nights and bad nights.  Sully plays bigger than KO, but both have limitations playing the low post.  KO needs strength, Sully can't find the blue sky against taller players.  They are both good passers.

I guess the best way to compare those two is in an ideal situation when both are on/hot.  So, a hot Sully vs a hot KO.  A showdown! haha.  When that happens I think I'd take KO over Sully.

I'd trade Sully, but for a low post/rebounding center.  Don't need a big name, just someone who knows his place.  In the  meantime, keep both and Zeller.  His is adequate.

He is 22 year old double-double machine.  You don't trade those guys.

What do you think AlJeff was when he was traded for KG? AlJeff was also blossoming into a legitimate 20-10 guy. Sully is somewhere between a Big Baby and an AlJeff, but much closer to a Big Baby, though I suspect he's got to put up better numbers longer to peak out his near-term maximum return.
