losing an all star control freak genius as point guard and a rebounder, then the most athletic high scorer and having a team with a 20year old rookie at point and turner and then pint sized pressey. This kid,KO is 18 months out of college playing multiple positions and overcoming some of his limitations and doesn't even know his strengths yet.The sour milk brigade is going to have field day with this rebuild.

Yep.

I think it's BS, and i'm not talking about Brad Stevens.

last night's game soured me a little bit more on KO. I can't stand when below-average/ poor players go and play great in front of their hometown, play the way their supposed to and play to their potential. particularly when they were non-existent for the last month or so. and he'll probably go back to being non-existent after he got this game out of his system.

just shows me he can play well, he has the ability, apparently he just chooses not to or when he wants to.

I think you're harsh, but feel your frustration, and kind of agree with your point.  Kelly needs a big kick in the butt.  He needs to demand the freakin' ball more.  He gets open down low posting a smaller player, and his team-mates either don't see him or ignore him.  He needs to create shots or assists off dribble more, rather than just get rid of it like a hot potato. He is easily the best 3 point shooter on the team, at least until Young gets acclimated.  So he needs to get in more sets to take his 3 point shot.

I don't know what Stevens has said or done, but he seems to be failing the team by not having him more of a focal point of the offense, and not criticizing the other players if they ignore him (There were several times last night when they ignored him when he was posting a small player on a switch, one time ending up in a 3 second violation).

This team is pretty selfish, what Sully said is very true.

not sure what is harsh in saying olynyk clearly has the ability but apparently only uses when he wants to? it was quite obvious after last night.

maybe I heard Gorman wrong but I could've sworn I heard him say during last night's game "olynyk is all over the place", I can't recall the last time I would use that phrase to describe KO's play. the last time KO had a big game I believe his parents were at the Garden. is this his only motivation?

Your evidence for KO choosing to play well is Gorman saying "olynyk is all over the place"

He avg 15pts, 6reb over 11 games.   Did his parents attend those 11 games while played in Canada?

Slumped for 4 games with low minutes because he's in his 2nd year still learning how to defend.

Your post has no substance.   Easily one of the worst I've ever read.

Olynyk is a 7 foot two guard who is adapting well to the 4 or 5 spot on a team whose roster changes every month or so.

I think he's a "first big off the bench" type. He needs more shots, but, this team is a fully planned and executed high draft pick generator.

When Olynyk is on the floor? The team is better, the ball moves better, shots are better. He isn't an NBA center that's for sure. He's usually got 4 fouls by early in the 3rd and that's what being a young NBA big is all about...ain't it?

Inconsistent? Dan to Brad Stevens at the beginning of season...."Listen to me, Brad, all I want from this roster is inconsistency, nothing more nothing less. Follow Evan Turner's lead, he knows how to do..."inconsistency" pretty much better than anyone else on the club. Sure win a game or two, but, stay focused on inconsistency. I'll do what I can to help, by trading all the good NBA calibre players."

Don't like Olynyk.

I don't like the way he plays

I don't like his feel for the game

Just don't like him as a player.

He's a coach's son with a great feel for the game.

Not from where I am sitting.

He looks awkward on the court at all times.

A lot of times his shot is flat.

He can't make free throws.

He plays no defense.

He's not aggressive on either side of the court.

And the comment Gorman made yesterday is that he's not very strong and doesn't play strong.

Just don't like him, coach's son or not.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I don't like KO's style of play.

I do however like how much he's improved on both ends.
He's definitely starting to get things defensively, and he's playing harder around the rim.
The thing I REALLY like about him is the reports that he's one of the first guys in the gym everyday and often the last to leave- according to Scalabrine.

Scalabrine said that Olynyk has told him he wants to get better every day and that's why he's practicing so hard. I love that attitude.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I like what I've seen out of Kelly all season long.  Sure, he's had some slumps in both shooting and confidence, but this is a common phenomenon for young NBA players.  Heck, it's a common phenomenon for almost all NBA players over the course of an 82 game season.

The kid just does a lot of things well.  He drives well, he shoots well, he finishes well, he passes well, he runs the floor well, he rebounds . . . well . . . not terribly.

He plays defense fairly not well.  He too often does not have strong hands with the basketball.

So far, for me, the positives well outweigh the negatives.

SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu

C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Also he is fabulous and he's a gentleman.

Those are also positives.

Fab Melo was not fabulous, despite his name.

Olynyk definitely has some weaknesses but the team has consistently played better when he's been on the floor this year (and last year believe it or not). The team is 7.5 points per 100 possessions better when he's on the floor than when he's not. We're simply a much better team with him right now than without him.

I'd also like to defend Kelly's defense a little bit. He has very active hands (1.5 steals per 36 minutes this year) and plays a lot of help defense. Not too knock Sully, but the difference in help defense when he's out there vs Kelly is huge.

Yeah, he's definitely still learning to play the frontcourt power game, which is hampered by his still being young and gaining strength. And he has had lapses where it looks like he's avoiding contact or his shot has gone flat.

But he certainly can shoot, with a TS% of .592 and range out to the 3. He's already a decent defender and he plays a team game on both O and D. He's got a fantastic feel for the game and can create shots for himself and others. He can pull the defense out and is showing an increased ability to then get in to the basket himself.

Really, I think you'll like his game more and more as he continues to improve on it.

Red had a way of finding and putting a team of players together, starting way back in 60's that were not prototypes.I think Danny may have that knack.I still remember that funny running  mcHale, slow cant' jump Bird, too small Cowens, slow can't jump Silas and Nelson, skinny Reggie Lewis that silent stiff,Parrish,Satch Sanders skinny with glasses, the list goes on- Now the Celt's are a collection of odd balls, too fat, short arms,a fullback, too young and a so called bust.KO is hard to judge but it looks no matter he will get better and has shown improvement and skills that are not normal for 7footers lets hope he becomes the next oddball star for years in celtics uniform.

KO will benefit greatly from the Jeff Green trade.  In all the games they played together this season Jeff Green passed the ball to Kelly ONCE, I kid you not, only ONE time!!!

Green must've known KO was next in line for his job....He should be more productive as he absorbs some of Green's FGA.

I agree that KO needs to toughen up a bit more, get a bit more aggressive, but let's give him time—it's only his second season.

It seems some people are way more impatient with KO than they were with the Mr. Passive we're about to trade (Green). We had that guy four years and he played aggressively maybe a dozen times.
