Rondo has gone 6 for 37 over his last 4 games. This is after scorching us for 29 points. I guess that jumper is still broken. 

I hated the trade but the Mavs got more of a project then they thought.

I mean... obviously predictable.  You don't go from shooting 25% from three 9 years in a row to suddenly transforming into a 40% shooter as soon as you're traded.   Rondo is a bad offensive player.   

I predicted a bit of a honeymoon period in Dallas once he arrived.  Might be over.  All the things the "haters" (skeptics) were concerned about seem to be happening there.  Rondo hurts their spacing.  The Monta/Rondo dynamic is problematic.  THey are still a good team.  No doubt they are a good team.  But they were a good team before the trade.  Highest scoring and most efficient offense in the league before adding Rondo.   I've been skeptical about him "moving the needle" and thus far, I don't see that he has.  7-4 since they acquired him.  They were 19-8 without him.  I doubt they are worse, but I doubt they are much better.

Last 4 games since he spitefully torched us with his best game in 2 years:  2-6 with 4 points, 1-13 with 2 points, 3-7 with 6 points (and 7 turnovers) and 1-11 with 2 points.

According to The Starters (NBATV) Rajon Rondo has had the effect of decreasing DAL offensively as a team (dropping them a few spots in the rankings) BUT - they went up a WHOPPING 15 spots to NUMBER 5 in the league defensively.

I'm sure Mark Cuban and Rich Carlylse are happy with that.

Probably too soon to judge.  We'll see what happens.

Prior to the trade they were 19-8.  They had the highest scoring offense (110 points) and most efficient (48% shooting).  They were 7th in assists (23.6).

Post trade they are 7-4.  They have scored 105.7 points per game (7th) and their FG% has dropped to 46% (9th)

Defensively pre-trade they were giving up the 7th most points in the league (102.7) on 45.7% shooting.

Defensively post-trade they are giving up the 9th most points in the league (101.9) on 44% shooting.

Lil better here.  Lil worse there.  I've never said the Mavs would stink after the move... just that Rondo doesn't move the needle much for them.

Their bench is horrible.  6-10, I don't think there's one player on Dallas you would take over 6-10 in Boston.  Replacing Nelson with a parking meter would've improved their defense but they basically need Dirk, Ellis and Parsons to each score over 20 to beat anyone good.

A graphic someone made, I'm not sure who. If they drop off offensively, but that defensive improvement is permanent, I sincerely doubt Cuban and Carlisle wouldn't take that. No team in a while has won a title without a top 10 defense, excluding the 01 Lakers and we all know how that ended.

I don't see that as a knock on Rondo, just the realities of the playoff landscape in the West. With OKC healthy someone likely drops, a prolonged stretch of .500 ball from any of the top 8 teams could be devastating. And Rondo link aside, why wouldn't you want them out of the playoffs as a Celtics fan? We'd get their pick!

I have not seen many Mavs games so your friend may well be right but in last nights game. The Clipps starters were about +23 over the Mavs starters (Rondo was -27 for example).  The bench was not the problem in that game.

Yes, teams in the league make adjustments as Rondo and Dallas are finding out. As Rondo continues to shoot blanks, and teams dare him to shoot the outside shot, his defense will slide too. Unfortunately so will his attitude.

Cuban will not stand for a sulking Rondo, continually trying to shoot himself out of a funk, for very long.

As for the playoff Rondo, you many get a good game out of him here and there, but over all it will be Boston Rondo all over again. Wait until he stops going to the hole because he doesn't want to get fouled, in fear of missing free throws.

Rondo has taken them from a terrible defense to an almost top 10 defense. That alone made the trade worth it. Now they have a slight chance at finals. Before, they didn't have a real chance due to the lack of defense.

Think who the opposing coach was in this game where they were able to be +27 points against Dallas when Rondo was on the floor.  I guess Doc knows how to defend a team with Rondo on the floor (or score on a team, depending on how you want to look at it).

Watch other west teams take notice and copy (if they had not already figured it out).  Dallas will have to either go back to the Doc Rivers Rondo office where Rondo dribbles around until he can make a pass for an assist; keep doing what they are doing and hope that Rondo starts hitting shots; or perhaps come up with some new scheme that no other coach (Doc or Stevens) has been able to come up with where they can hide Rondo on offense and rely on their improved defense to beat teams.

Rondo's defense has been elite, which is what he was brought there for. He's helping there rebounding (but they still struggle against great rebounding teams). Despite everyone harping on the Monta/Rondo backcourt, Monta has been largely the same. Still averaging more than 20 pts a game, if anything Rondo has improved Monta's defensive intensity.

They're still winning games, they weren't going to go undefeated the rest of the season but they'll be fine. I'm more concerned with Dirk bricking so many wide open 3's than Rondo fitting longterm.
