Austin Rivers is in his third season, and is shooting 38.7% from the field and 28.0% from 3PT.  He shoots about 24% on 2PTs that are 10-feet and longer.  He has a career .462 TS%.  He's poor defensively, and is mediocre as a rebounder and passer.

He's absolute garbage.  The only good news is that New Orleans declined his option, so he's a free agent at the end of the year.

I'm sure this is just a sloppy report by Stein, because with no #1, this would be ridiculously poor value.
Need to read the whole thread before commenting...lol.  As long as they're getting the pick, it can't hurt to take a flyer on him.  Can they send him to Maine?  He'll get plenty of shooting in there the way that team plays....

Don't expect rivers to be Steph Curry from the 3 pt line. That is not his game.  Hopefully it improves, but his bread and butter is driving to the basket/mid range game

and keep in mind that rivers was the 10th pick in the same draft as sully, zeller, henson, and others. and people here roast ainge over HIS draft picks.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

He doesn't have a mid-range game (24% on 2PTs beyond 10 feet), and he's not particularly good at getting to the hoop, which is why he can't crack 40% shooting.

I've watched a lot of New Orleans this year on League Pass (gotta get that Anthony Davis fix) and trust me, Austin's not that good at that either. His ceiling is a serviceable backup combo guard.

I think Stein means "to New Orleans", not Boston.

Rivers is a combo guard (starting to see a theme here). He's probably one of those kids who could have used some more seasoning before entering the draft. He seemed like a pretty solid scorer in his Freshman year at Duke. He hasn't exactly panned out in the NBA so far though.

That being said, he's only 22. If people here hung on to the hope that Rondo would take a leap at the age of 29, I don't see why it's so far fetched for a 22 year old to do so. Not saying g he'll turn into a star but there is potential there. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery/new system. I'm interested to see how he fits CBS' offensive system w/all the pick n rolls, etc.

Overall, Rivers seems like a low risk, high reward type of gamble. It's not like the C's are going anywhere this year so might as well see what happens. Maybe they'll get lucky for once.

Love the inclusion of Rivers. Why not take him instead of Salmons? Salmons is on the down side of his career and surely would get bought out. Rivers could have some upside in a motion offense better suited for his skills.

If Rivers doesn't work out, then we are right where we would have been with Salmons, acquiring a guy who has an expiring deal.

What is not to like?
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Posted this in another thread, but it's so wonderful I decided to post it here as well.

In 2000 we draft Jerome Moiso with the #11 pick... In 2001 we trade Moiso for Philly's 2003 1st... which we used to take Dahntay Jones at #20 and essentially trade it to Memphis on draft night for Kendrick Perkins (who they selected 27th)... who we later used to trade for Jeff Green.

In 2003, Ainge, much to the chagrin of Celtic fanboys of the time, trades our "superstar" Antoine Walker in a package that nets several pieces... one of them being a kid named Jiri Welsch.  In 2005, Ainge traded Jiri Welsch for the Cavs 2007 1st rounder.  In 2006 he trads that future Cavs 1st rounder (that ended up being Rudy Fernandez) to the Phoenix Suns for the player they took 21st... some scrub named Rajon Rondo.

When you lament the loss of Jeff Green and Rajon Rondo, you're effectively lamenting the loss of Jerome Moiso and Jiri Welsch.

I, for one, am very excited to see what Jerome Moiso nets us in 2020.
Thanks man, that's some decent historical research and suggests  that the "Moiso Effect" may be the closest humanity has ever come to finding the philosopher's stone.

Gerald Green got written off, right?  Etoine Moore, when he was here, looked like he'd never stay in the league, so it does happen.

I'm with Roy. Rivers is terrible. But he fits in prefectly because so is the rest of our team.

Exactly my point. We don't really lose anything. If he stinks, he probably helps with getting a better lottery pick this year and then we don't pick up his QO. If he actually shows signs of improvement, we may have found a solid player for CBS' system. I'd rather see Rivers play than Pressey or the corpse of a Jon Salmons type player. For Christ' sake, CBS made Jordan freaking Crawford and Evan Turner into efficient players during their time here!
