After this season we're going to have something like 30 million in cap space. You have to assume we're going to spend at least some of it.

Looking at the Free Agent crop.....http://hoopshype.com/free_agency_2015.htm

I'm seeing very little that:

1. We could realistically get.
2. Fits the direction of this team.

Have there been any articles about this?

Who do you guys want to see in Green next year? And don't say Aldridge or Gasol. It's not happening.

My choices (and I don't love these either) are:

Greg Monroe
Thad Young

Thoughts?

I'm not liking those choices you listed.

There's a Reggie Jackson thread already. I'm thinking he makes the most sense. There's also Asik, D Jordan, and Wesley Matthews.

There are some guys we could offer a max for such as Gasol but I don't see us landing a player like this without being able to get two. And we don't have the money for two big signings.

If two max level players agreed to sign here, we could easily open the cap space by moving Wallace to a team under the cap by attaching a pick.  The problem is that two max level players will not agree to sign here.  We first need to develop talent in order to attract talent.

I don't see how Reggie Jackson is a fit when you just spent a #6 pick on Marcus Smart.

Both players have the ability to play off the ball. They both also have decent size to be able to guard both guard positions.

Don't like it. Reggie Jackson is a true scoring PG that's going to require close to a max deal. Not a guy you platoon in multiple positions. You drafted Marcus Smart to be your PG of the future and after one year you decide to go another way. Eh.

Why not a free agent star that sees all the draft choices and a team being built around him.The celtics tradition, the challenge, the number of draft picks, and drive of ainge to build winner.I never would have believed lebron going back  to the cav's but i could see ainge convincing a budding young guy with dynasty aspirations in the coming years.

Have you seen the direction the Grizzlies (Gasol) and Trailblazers (Aldridge) are going? And the fact that they can offer more $ than the Celtics? The Heat were a sinking ship which is why that frontrunner Lebron left. We're not getting either of those two bigs. It's just not happening.

Enes Kanter could be a target. Good big man talent with a lot of room for improvement.

I personally have never believed Marcus Smart was drafted to be the PG of the future, for 1.  And secondly, even if you buy into the premise that he is a point guard, a lot of teams run two point-guard sets, which was discussed ad nauseum leading up to the draft last year.  Jackson and Smart (and Bradley) could co-exist just fine on a team.

I'm not convinced Smart is our future starting PG.  Certainly not in the short term.  I do think that he could and should replace Bradley as the starting SG if Smart's recent improved shooting continues.

Nobody is saying they couldn't. But money is better spent elsewhere considering what you currently have at the guard position.

Leonard and Drummond are my top 2... would have to offer max deals though

Not only will the celtics have over 30 million on a 66 million cap but they have a boat load of trade exeptions and the cap is expected to rise greatly starting the 2017 season so they seem to be in good shape as long as they can recruit players to sign..
